Gilam,
Thanks for the great support and effort you are putting here. Just wanted your educated assessment on my MBAchances and compatibility with the different programs.
I would like to commence studying either in 09/07 or 09/08, and I prefer LBS as I have a EU passport so I'd like to work in the UK, have worked in an anglosaxian environment, but would also consider a top 10 Uni. in the US – NYC area or California.
The areas the interest me the most are either asset management/hedge funds or trading, and I would really like to work in the city of London upon graduating
a bit it about me:
I am 29 years old and have lived in the last 2 years in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Gmat 660 (I am not required to do a tofel, if I am not mistaken)
Education:
Studied Law and Political science in TAU. (Avg. ~80).
High School – I studied in a special program for gifted students with interdisciplinary emphasis ("Boier").
Post graduate diploma studies of applied finance and Investments – Securities institute of SA. (finished with Avg. of 88).
Work Exp.
Worked as an analyst for an Investment house in Tel Aviv during my 2-3 year at Uni.
Did my internship with a top tier law firm in TA, specializing in Corporate law.
Have been working for a year and a half as asset/portfolio manager in an Asset management company in Johannesburg.
Military Service: Officer (captain) with a combat unit.
Extra curricular activities: In Israel – moderating a learning program for underprivileged high school students, during university and during my internship.
In SA – member of an Israeli-SA young business leader organization – initiated a fund raising event for Israel.
Travelled vastliy in the US, Africa, S.America, Australia, India, etc. Quite some cosmopolitan life you have…
How do you view my background? will the international exp. be a significant leverage? which areas need to be supported, or in other words where are my weaknesses?
Your diverse and broad international experiences are definitely extraordinary, and they will be a plus. They are likely to have more weigth in European schools, but will also carry weight among US schools.
International orientation and experience is one of about 20 admission drivers. In your case, because you're extremely strong on this aspect, it's likely to carry more weight than usual and make a significant impression (you'll possibly be remembered among admissions officers as "that cosmopolitan guy").
Your work experience and community activities sound like another strength of your application.
One of the primary admission drivers is analytical skills. These are mainly deducted from your GPA and GMAT. Therefore, analytical skills, on the face of it, sound like the main concern that top-20 admission committees will have about you. You will be able to alleviate some of this concern through recommenders that describe how smart you are (and provide concrete examples), through courses from which you graduated/will graduate with distinction, and through some emphasis on analytical achievements in your personal history.
Thanks very much and sorry for the long post, I just wanted to present you with the majority of the info.
Sure. Hope I helped. Good luck!
