Numerous considerations contributed to my decision to attend Tuck. I wanted to stay in the northeastern part of the US, wanted a general management program, a small intimate class with a kick ass alumni network, they threw some scholarship money my way, I loved my visit there and I was looking for a unique experience.
On the academic side, I think Tuck is very strong in strategy and management- the fields I am most interested in. The school also has the reputation of being very friendly and team oriented which is one of the reasons recruiters at b-schools give Tuckies such high marks.
Excellent question regarding the international flavor of the school. Tuck definitely has a reputation for being very American. Perhaps that was true in the past but I think they have made a concerted effort to increase the international representation at the school. Approximately 25% of the class is not American (maybe even slightly more). I also think the reason for this is that many international students are drawn to urban campuses because they have never been in the US before and want an "American expereince" that they feel NY, Boston and San Francisco provide as opposed to the suburban bliss of New Hampshire. Tuck is a bit of a self-selecting school for both foreign and US students.
I wish I knew the answer to your last question. I'm just guessing here in my answer. I think that once they decide you can handle the academic rigors of the school (based on GPA, GMAT and work experience), they focus on how will this individual fit in to our small community. Tuck's size makes it difficult to just disappear in to the background so they want to make sure you are excited about the school, working with groups and that even if you don't ski or play ice hockey- in your past life you did.
