האמת שאני לא מכירה את Tuck (אשמח לקבל פרטים) אבל השאלה שלי היא לגבי מלגות באופן כללי, אני רק מתחילה להתעניין בנושא של MBA בחו"ל

I nevered heard about this option… but it looks like we are going to wait together. I am applying today

They told me I'm a good candidate…however they cannot offer me a place at this time…and would like to defer me to round 2. They specifically said it's not a waitlist status but rather asked me to wait until they consider round 2 applicants. No one I talked to knew exactly what it means but I'd like to think I'm a little bit better off than on waitlist. I did have a phone interview, by the way.
Did any of you guys heard of it?? Any ideas?

I assuming we're still talking about MIT.

According to a chat with Rod, # of R1 apps was over 30% down from last year (less than 1000, no exact number). I guess it was WAY LESS than they expected. Rod said they've interviewed 40% of the app pool (and admited about 200). My guess is that they don't know what to estimate in regard to the # of apps on round 2 and how many to damit, and that's why you got what you got.

IMHO. I don't think it's better or worse than being WL; it just means you're going to be compared to R2 instaed of R1 pool. You're best chance is that # of R2 apps will be also lower.

    Disclaimer – I'm a R2 applicant.

Hi all the new admitted students,

I wish to launch the IIMBA again for the newly admitted students and for this I need your help

As you know (hopefully) last year we started the IIMBA and we wish to continue to operate it and help as many candidates, applicants and alumni

for this I need your help:

    1) I am looking for several people to run the activities from the Israeli side

    2) I wish to prepare an updated list of newly admit and follow up on this list and arrange some meetings between the new admits

please send me your contacts (prefered email and prefered phone number) and the school/schools you were admitted to and also are you willing to help the IIMBA

    Thanks in advance

I don't anything about MIT, but I was waitlisted from Wharton (they call it waitlist), with the same message you received – we will consider you again with the R2 applicant pool. So I don't think it is so bizarre. For me the subtext was that they deem me suitable for the class, however, they had more exciting applicants and want to see R2 before they make the decision – while you never know how close you were in the first place, it is a sign that you have reasonable to good chance of being admitted. In Wharton, they said that number of apps went down in R2 vs. last year but not as significantly as R1. Obviously, for such waitlisters the less apps the better…

The following answer by Sandy – the "application guru" – was taken from the BusinessWeek forums. Good luck.

    =================================================

    Sandy:

Whats your advice for an Round 1 MIT Sloan Waitlist? I had heard Sloan likes Alums lobbying for wl'ed folks.=============

agree, Sloan is open to lobbying by alums, current students, big wigs, etc. and also by the candidate: like all such porous systems, there is no program available, you just have to use your best judgment, be lucky, and have supporters both write and call WL managers and Rod to some degree. Current students can write messages, alums can write letters. Sloan believes, but cannot really overtly admit, that the class to some degree selects itself, and lobbying is proof of commitment.

    I have absolutely no connection with hi-tech. Lawyer, 690, 273, 3.2

I have been working for the past three years in a law firm in Jerusalem that deals with Company Liquidation. Under this capacity I have had valuable experience in managing companies. However, for me, I think, it was all in the essays.

    Lots of luck

To those of you who applied to Stanford – They began THE "welcome call process".

I didn't apply there myself (too warm and nice weather per my taste..) , But – a friend of mine got the call from Derrick Bolton while we were drinking beer (this evening).

    Good luck all.

Don't worry about that – he doesn't take an Israeli spot – he is a dual citizen who lived abroad for a long time.

I don't know if he likes me to post his background, however he was VERY surprised to get the call and Stanford was a "long shot" for him (his words).

I submitted my application a couple of days before the deadline and was invited for an interview at the end of November.
Note to all of you guys who are using web-based email accounts (Hotmail, Yahoo!…) – I did not receive their email inviting me for an interview, and I only learned about it 2 weeks later when they called me to see why I haven't responded. By that time it was too late for an interview in Europe so I had no choice but to do a phone interview!
