It's a merit-based scholarship and I didn't do anything special to get – they consider everyone who gets an offer.

I don't think it'll change my preferences but it's nice to hear…

They sent an e-mail and a few days later I also got a letter in the regular mail.

I think they consider everyone for those scholarships, providing the applicant filled the necessary page in the application. Did you apply to Duke? If so, it is in the "Merit Scholarship and Financial Aid Information" page.

First of all, you can check whether you did or not.

If you didn't, call them up, and ask them to change it manually. Since this has nothing to do with the application itself, there should not be a problem.

It varies. Some scholarships are given to lure you to the school. Other scholarships are almost "standard". For example, there is a school that gives 10K to an Israeli admit, and another gives 10K for any admit with high GMAT. Ask current students in the schools you are interested.

Would you prefer a school with a better brand name without a scholarship over one that gives you a full scholarship but has less prestige?

Generally, the former is preferable, but I think it is an issue of what your career goals are, and the relative strengths of the schools. Although a good scholarship takes out some of the risk of doing the MBA and not finding a lucrative enough job, you should look at the long run.

I am referring here not just to students, but to all "Israeli's" living in the same city as the school.

It seems that having other Israeli's living in the same city could help with issues such as: Jobs for spouses, etc.

Does someone have info about "Israeli community size" for Chicago, Duke, and NY?

At Duke there are currently 8 MBAs, 2 LLMs, 5 PhDs and 3 Post docs. On top, there are 5 Israeli professors.

Other than that there is an Israeli community in Raleigh and Carry (all three cities are in the triangle area, about 10 miles apart) who work for various high tech companies in the triangle. The community is pretty tight and celebrates some of the holidays together.

I applied in round 2, and had to wait 3 weeks for the scholarship decision, but I didn't wait sitting, rather walking around nervously :)

I read an interview with Duke's financial aid director which said that there really isn't anything that you can do to help getting a scholarship – they just use your application to make a decision, so I didn't do anything, but that's me.

I'd really like to go to the Blue Devil Weekend, meeting the students and faculty I'm going to spend so much time with. It's also going to be a lot fun too (Especially the "Drinking Beer and then Running" event :) ).

But….I can't bring my self to spending so much money just for a weekend, since I still hold my job.

Anyway, I think that attending such a weekend is really important if you're seriously undecided between two schools, and seeing the place can make you realize where your heart tends to be. This is not my case.

My fingers are crossed for you regarding the Fuqua Scholarship, so I don't have any left for your H/W applications, but lots of good luck for that too :)

Hi,

I got an offer from INSEAD to go to their Singapore campus. Another alternative they gave me was to be on the WL for FBL.

What do you think I should do? I planned to work in Europe afterward and now it seems less obvious.

Does anyone know about Israelis that were accepted to each campus? (the offer can be a marketing trick as well…) the estimated number might help me to reach my decision.

Well, 710, 290, 87 average in Computer-Science & Business Administration.

Founded a startup about 5 years ago and have managed/worked in it since.

I must admit that this was far from predictable. When I just started off, I was advised to go for the 2^nd ten in the ranking. Obviously, I’m glad that I didn’t take that advice.

It’s hard to tell what they liked about my application. What I can tell is that my essays were pretty balanced – not overselling, I also had very articulated recommendations. I also know that my interviewer appreciated my effort in coming to interview on campus (she said that about 4 times). I guess they also appreciated the fact that I have had a very clear direction (management in hi-tech) since I finished the army.

BTW – if I had to bet what would happen right after submitting the applications, I would have guessed that I had better chances to get into Stanford than into HBS. Surprisingly, I was dinged from Stanford without even getting an interview. So, as I said – you can never tell.

I am still waiting for MIT, but I guess HBS will be it.

Are there any other 2^nd round HBS admits?

Thanks! I enjoyed my visit to MIT very much. Everyone was nice. I think I had a good interview. It was about an hour long, and at the end, my interviewer wanted to hook me up with someone from Sloan so we can jam together (me on the piano, him, I don’t know)…

I am planning to take some courses in MIT (cross registration), so we will definitely meet – even in the class room.

Are you final about MIT? What about your Columbia plans?
