    Dovi,

A 640 GMAT score is a lower than the average score for the Johnson school at Cornell. However, your application is viewed as a whole which includes your work experience, your academic capabilities, references from past employees and any other activities which demonstrate your leadership and career development potential. I advise you to visit the website color=#0000cc http://www.johnson.cornell.edu to learn about the school. With regards to your questions about the curriculum, go the the section that describes the immersion learning semester. There are 7 immersions:

    1. Strategic Brand Management

    2. Research, Sales and Trading

    3. Managerial Finance

    4. Investment Banking

    5. Strategic Studies and Operations

    6. Entrepreneurship and Private Equity

    7. Global Sustainable Enterprise

    Hi Eitan,

My Name is Nir and I plan to apply to Cornell to Sep 2009.
First of all, I would like to thanks you for your willingness to help us all.
I’ll appreciate your input regarding the following issues:

    1. I am product development manger from the food business. Did you meet anyone from similar background during your MBA? Is it an advantages or disadvantage?
    2. Hopefully, I will come with my wife and baby, how well Cornell suits families?
    3. I would like to join the basketball club, do you have any detail on it?
    4. I plan to visit beginning of October, do you have any advices?

    Many thanks

    Nir,

See my answers to your questions below.

    EA

    1. I am product development manger from the food business. Did you meet anyone from similar background during your MBA? Is it an advantages or disadvantage? There are no advantages or disadvantages for having a certain industry or function work experience since you are being evaluated based on your leadership record and career achievements/ progress/ goals/ potential. I did have several classmates with a similar background to yours and some of them ended up working in the same industry upon graduation while others made a career change.

    1. Hopefully, I will come with my wife and baby, how well Cornell suits families? Cornell University is considered as a great option for candidates with spouses and children and the main reasons for that are the life quality, cost of living, and most important – the closed community environment that Cornell University has to offer. Students at Cornell are actually encouraged to bring their families to the many activities and events that the school holds and designs especially for this purpose. On my second year, for example, the school started a tradition called “Sage Social” which is designed to increase opportunities for informal socializing among staff, faculty, students, and students families. I encourage you to explore more about these opportunities at color=#800080 http://www.johnson.cornell.edu/life/significantother.html .

    1. I would like to join the basketball club, do you have any detail on it? Unfortunately, I am not familiar with this club although I know we have one. I would search for the club president’s e-mail address at color=#800080 http://www.johnson.cornell.edu/life/studentorganizations/officers.html and drop him a line.

    1. I plan to visit beginning of October, do you have any advices? There are actually a few actions you might want to take prior arriving to Cornell and while in Ithaca like registering for a class visit and informal lunch and tour with a current student. I would also contact one of our current Israeli students in order to know what would be the best time to arrive and do while there. In case you are interested in that please drop me a line and I would be more than happy to put you in touch with someone.

We have exciting news to share! We are currently in negotiations with three financial institutions for a new loan program specifically for international students. The new loan program replaces a recently discontinued program and will not require you to have a U.S. citizen or permanent resident co‑sign on the loan. We are confident that we will have at least one new no-cosigner loan program in place by the time our students arrive for classes in August 2009.
If you hesitated about applying to the Johnson School because of the lack of loans for international students, we encourage you to apply now. Along with the new loan program, this year we are awarding scholarships to students admitted in Round 4. To be considered for Round 4 scholarship funds and to take advantage of the new loan program for international students, you must apply by March 23, 2009. For more information about the Johnson School, please visit our web site at http://www.johnson.cornell.edu or view our Interactive Viewbook at http://www.johnson.cornell.edu/viewbook.

My name is Oz and I'm a 1st-year student at Cornell University's Johnson Graduate School of Management.

I will be happy to take any question you might have regarding the MBA program at Johnson.

There are 6 Israeli students in the full-time MBA program, we have different backgrounds (military, banking, marketing, enterpenuership, hi-tech) and different career paths (Sustainable Global Enterprise, Consulting, Finance, Marketing).

We would be happy to share our experiences from the program and answer questions.

    Hi Rosenber1,

Well there is a lot to this question. Let me give you some main points and point out some sites you should check for more information.

What makes Johnson Graduate School of Management a unique MBA program:

    1. Location – Ithaca, NY. A small town that is all about the student of Cornell university and Ithaca College (another university in Ithaca). I like the sense of close community, the nature that surroundes (lakes, waterfalls, ski resort, etc.), and the night life (which are not close to NYC but sufficient to my needs of nice bars, malls, restaurants, etc.) face=Centuryhttp://www.ci.ithaca.ny.us/

    2. MBA program – high percentage of international students, team work oriented environment, intense and demanding curriculum, and special centers for areas of focus ( sustainable Global Enterprise, Trading/ Finance, Entrepreneurship, etc.)

In the curriculum, for example, one of the most distinguishing factors is the Immersions. The immersions are clasters of courses in a specific area of studies that are directed by a business/academic specialist to give students additional, out of the class, and supplemental education and practice. For example, if you are interested in marketing, you would join the Marketing Immersion, where you would take special courses, go to visit marketing firms, meet prominent businessmen from the industry, and engage in project around marketing research. A good site for that is: face=Centuryhttp://www.johnson.cornell.edu/academic/mba/immersion.html

    3. Career opportunities – Johnson School is ranked high in every ranking. Its affiliation with Cornell University and its diversified curriculum and quality of alumni, are strong factors to keep it highly ranked in this change of economic environment.

Many leading companies are coming to campus to recruit and there is a well managed network of alumni that help students in their career search.

I suggest you take a look at: face=Centuryhttp://www.gsm.cornell.edu/career/EmploymentFacts.pdf for more information.

Please, take a look at the face=Centuryhttp://www.johnson.cornell.edu/ site for more information.

I will be happy to answer any further questions you might have.

    Oz.

    Hi Doron,

This is a link to a very comprehensive pdf on this exactly statistics (summer internship, full time, companies, etc.): http://www.gsm.cornell.edu/career/EmploymentFacts.pdf

We don't have yet the statistics for this year, but you can assume it is much harder. The numbers will probably be lower.

    Hope that helps,
