Regarding your first question, slovo answered it in detail in a previous message in this forum. Check it out. The only thing I would add to that is to talk to current students from the schools you are interested in.

Regarding your second question, search slovo’s response to Laker as well as my reply to Eyal in this forum. If you have any additional questions, feel free to contact me (my email is published several times in the forum).

Finally, your third question:
I’ll tell you what schools don’t like: they don’t like answers to “Why My School” that smell like a template that was copied and pasted from another application with the only difference being the school’s name (sometimes people even forget insert the correct name!). Trust me, they can sense these templates from Kilometers…
And really, if you are about to spend 2 years of school, ~$200K, and make this huge step that would take your career forward – I’m sure you want to make sure that the school you’ll attend will help you achieve your goals. Therefore, spend a good amount of time on researching the school, thinking what you would want to do when you graduate, which industries you are interested in, what skills are you missing—and then find out what is it that the specific school has that can help you get there (a few examples: a course, club, an annual event, a professor, a certain teaching method, a certain “atmosphere” that the school creates and promotes and so on). True, there is no limit to how deep you can go, and you could spend hours and hours taking to students/doing your own research just to write 50 words in the application. But when an application reader has 100 amazing applications in front of him/her and now they have to pick 10 to admit- those 50 words (which reflect your seriousness, engagement, and understanding of the schools technicalities and spirit) can make all the difference.

Another option is to leave this field blank, if the university does not provide this information. The class rank concept is very common in the US, but admission offices understand that this might not be the case for other schools/countries.

Just make sure you explain why you left this field blank (if you decide to do so).

My school didnt provide the class rank, so I left the field blank- which was fine. If you graduated with honors – you should show it! You can ask your school what was the cut-off grade and/or what % of the students graduated with honors in your year, so that you can write "top 10%" to highlight the achievement.

Good question, I had the same problem.
If I remember correctly, there was no room for two “final averages”. So I calculated the average myself, and added a note both in the additional essay and in the actual transcript that I sent to the schools.
But it may not be a bad idea to send an email to the admissions office and verify.

אם הייתי צריכה להגדיר את רמת הקושי של המתמטיקה עצמה במונחים של הארץ – הייתי אומרת ששמדובר ברמה של 3 יחידות ועוד קצת…

לא מצפים ממך להיות גאון מתמטי, אבל כן יש דרישה להבנה לוגית וחשיבה כמותית שהיא טיפה מעבר להצבה בסיסית בנוסחאות

למי שעשה תואר ראשון שכלל קורסים כמותיים לא אמורה להיות בעיה. ישנם בתי ספר שנחשבים ליותר "כמותיים" (וורטון לדוגמא) ועדיין מתחילים את כל הקורסים ברמה בסיסית כדי ליישר קו עם כולם.

יחד עם זאת העומס הוא גדול, במיוחד בהתחלה כשיש המון נושאים חדשים, והרי אנחנו לא תמיד זוכרים את מה שלמדנו לפני 5-6 שנים… גם קצב ההתקדמות הוא מהיר יחסית

ולכן מה שהייתי ממליצה במידה ואת רוצה הכנה מוקדמת – ליצור קשר מספיק זמן לפני תחילת הלימודים עם הסטודנטים הישראלים שלומדים בבי"ס אליו תסעי ולבקש שישלחו לך את ההרצאות או את השמות של הספרים בקורסים הרלוונטים וכך תוכלי לעבור קצת על החומר לפני ולהגיע יותר מוכנה.

בעקרון, הדעה הרווחת היא שככל שאתה עולה בדרוג של בית הספר יותר ויותר קשה לקבל מלגה. בשנה שעברה, שיקגו יצאה מן הכלל הזה כשהיא חילקה3 מלגות מלאות לישראלים!. בנוסף, עם הקבלה, היו מקרים שאנשים קיבלו מלגה חלקית נחמדה ביותר .

כשאני התקבלתי בשנה שעברה, קיבלתי הביתה רשימה של כל המלגות שקשורות (וגם כאלה שלא קשורות ישירות) לבי"ס הספציפי ואפשר לעבור על הרשימה ולהגיש למה שרלוונטי (יהודים, נשים, מצטיינים, מנהיגים, מתעניינים בתחום ספציפי וכו).

את גם יכולה לנסות בגוגל לכתוב scholarships ותגיעי לכמה דטה-בייסים שמכילים מלגות שונות. לא ניסיתי.

כל זה טוב ויפה אבל אני עדיין מעריכה שהסיכויים למלגה הם נמוכים. אבל צריך לזכור שלחלק גדול מהאנשים אין את הסכומים האלה בבנק . הבי"ס יודע את זה ונותן הלוואות בתנאים טובים וזה גם ברור לכולם שהMBA יאפשר לך להחזיר את ההלוואה הזו בזמן סביר

בדיוק לפני שבועיים בעלי ואני (שנינו לומדים בוורטון) הענקנו אחר כבוד לבי"ס 44 אלף דולר בלחיצת כפתור קטנה . אני לא אגיד לך שזה לא כאב, אבל אנחנו יודעים שמדובר בהשקעה לטווח ארוך ולכן הרגענו את עצמינו ומיד יצאנו לחופשת סקי של 3 ימים בלייק טאהו – כי מה שלא הורג מחשל

עוד כמה דברים קטנים שכדאי לדעת: בהתמחות בקיץ בין השנה הראשונה לשניה סטודנט ממוצע מרוויח כ20 אלף דולר, ובשנה השניה ניתן לעבוד כTA ולהרוויח עוד כמה אלפי דולרים

על המשכורות שאחרי התואר כתבו פה כבר הרבה…

שיהיה בהצלחה לך ולבעלך

וכמובן- מזל טוב לכל המתקבלים החדשים, ובהצלחה למגישים בסיבוב השני!!!

גם בשנה שעברה חלק מהאנשים קיבלו זימון עם בוגר וחלק קיבלו ראיון טלפוני (כמוני). הסיבה היא כנראה מיעוט של בוגרים שמראיינים (בשנה שעברה היה ידוע לי על אחד)

כך שזה נראה לי ענין לוגיסטי לחלוטין ונראה לי שממש אין לך מה לדאוג.

הי איילת,
גם בוורטון מקבלים ציונים על עבודות, מבחנים וכד. הציון הסופי הוא בסקאלה של A-F
עד שנה שעברה, המדיניות של וורטון היתה של Grade non disclosure- כלומר אי חשיפת ציונים. השנה בוטלה מדיניות זו אבל יחד עם זאת, בבירור שעשו עם מספר חברות מובילות הסתבר שאין לחברות כוונה לשנות את המדיניות ולשאול סטודנטים על הציונים שלהם. בנוסף, אגודת הסטודנטים החליטה לקיים הצבעה של הסטודנטים בכל שנה ולהחליט כקולקטיב כיצד לנהוג.
מההתרשמות שלי אין השפעה בעקבות השינוי במדיניות- הסטודנטים עוזרים אחד לשני כל הזמן ונראה שלציונים אין חשיבות גדולה יותר מבשנים קודמות.

לא נראה לי שמישהו לא התקבל כי הוא מעל גיל 30 או מתחת ל24, ולא נראה לי שמישהו לא התקבל רק כי יש לו תואר מתקדם, או רק כי יש לו גימת נמוך או כי הוא לא ראה עולם.

כל אחד מאיתנו הוא מכלול של תכונות (טובות יותר או פחות) – ומה שועדות הקבלה בודקות הם את אותו מכלול

I heard that there were some concerns regarding transcripts. The below info is confirmed by the Wharton admissions committee:
Transcript template:

1. Grades, scores or marks should be reported EXACTLY as they are awarded (0-100 in our case, I guess)
2. If applicants school did not report a GPA, then the field should be left blank
3. If the rank in class is not reported by the school- leave it blank

Official Transcripts:

1. Official transcripts are required if admitted (so for now you only need the grades, and you have time later to ask for an official signed transcript from your university. Make sure, however, that the grades reported match the actual transcript grades)
2. Transcripts from exchange programs do not need to be submitted IF the coursework taken on exchange is included in the final transcript of the school from which the student graduated (grades may or may not be reported on the final transcripts)

Some of the "red flags" are not weaknesses, and there are other weaknesses which are not listed. Just be aware of yours, explain them, and be yourself. Adcoms are genuinely looking for nice people with potential. Above all, I believe, they appreciate honesty and sincerity.

I also read that you had a concern regarding your age . I am not saying that it is a complete "non-issue", but you should know that the Admissions Committee IS AWARE that Israelis serve in the military, and therefore are older than the usual average. If you really think about it- this can actually be viewed as an advantage. You bring a lot of experience, maturity, leadership – that makes us Israelis quite unique in here- so SHOW IT in the application! Just make sure that you show that you spent your years "wisely", and explain why you think that now (or whenever you are ready) is a good time to pursue an MBA degree . Our 30+ club here at Wharton has quite a few "proud members"- so you will not be alone.

Here is what I remember (but perhaps other people can confirm)

HBS: 6 in R1 and 2 in R2.

Wharton: I am not sure, but I think 2/3 got in in R1, and 1/3 in R2.

There was definitely a higher portion of admits in R1. However, I applied to all schools in R2, and still made it (4/5). The best tip I could give you is to apply when you are READY. If you feel that your application is not good enough in R1- I would suggest that you dont "waist" it- and work on it a little longer.

Thanks for the greetings.

All 4 schools that I was admitted to are great schools, and I can tell you that I would have been more than happy to study in each one of them.

There were actually 2 reasons for choosing Wharton over HBS, each of them alone was a sufficient basis for me to make my decision.

The first reason was personal. The second reason was what is called “the fit”. I visited both schools, sat in classes, talked to students and alumni. Overall I felt that at Wharton I could get the most out of my MBA experience. To me, this means an appropriate balance between academics, extra-curricular activities, leadership opportunities, guest lectures of top business leaders, projects, etc (there are soooo many of those- you will not believe), and… yes… having a life in between. I felt that at Wharton I would be able to maximize this set of opportunities. Don’t get me wrong- you will have to work extremely hard in all schools, but there is something about the atmosphere at Wharton, the people, the team-oriented environment etc… that made Wharton the right place for me.

You will actually be surprised- I am not the only one at Wharton who was admitted to H/S, and I also know of people who were admitted to a top 5 school, and decided to go to “lower ranked” school- for many different reasons. Looking at the top 10 schools,I think that you really can’t go wrong. It is now your job to find out which school is the right one for you.

אני אמנם לא עשיתי תואר שני בארץ אבל אני מכירה כמה שהתחילו וגם כאלה שסיימו.

התשובה לשאלה שלך בשתי מילים: לדעתי, אפשר

התשובה הקצת יותר ארוכה היא שתצטרך להסביר למה אחרי הלימודים בארץ אתה עדיין חושב שMBA בארה"ב יוכל לעזור לך. מה יתן לך תואר בארה"ב שלא קיבלת בארץ ולמה לא הלכת על תואר בארה"ב מלכתחילה.

מה שחלק מהאנשים עושים זה להרשם לתואר שני בארץ ולקחת כמה קורסים. זה דוקא יכול להיות יתרון כי אז אתה מסביר שרצית להעשיר את עצמך בתחום, לקחת כמה קורסים כדי לקבל עוד ידע ולדעת אם זה אכן מה שתרצה לעשות בעתיד. זה גם טוב לאנשים שציוני התואר הראשון שלהם לא משהו והם יכולים להראות שהם שיפרו משמעותית את הציונים שלהם בתואר השני.

ברגע שהשלמת את התואר כולו אז מגיע הקטע שצריך להסביר- משימה לא בלתי אפשרית אבל עד כמה שאני מבינה פחות עדיפה.
