Thanks for the detailed information! I found the form that I need to fill out and send them to request a Status Information Letter.

Did you manage to sign up after age 26 or did you just request and receive the Status Information Letter? I understand from the site that there is no way to sign up past age 26.

In any case, if you still have the letter in which you presented your case, could you please share it? I am jjzzjj (with) gmail. I assume our reasons are the same (ignorance since we don't live in the US) and I'd be less worried if I submit arguments that have already worked in the past.
