סקר חדש של קפלן מצא כי 27% מחברי ועדות הקבלה של תוכניות ה-MBA אמרו שהם ביצעו חיפוש על מועמדים בגוגל כדי ללמוד פרטים נוספים עליהם, ו-22% הודו שהם בדקו את הפרופיל של המועמד בפייסבוק או ברשתות חברתיות אחרות. 14% אמרו שהבדיקה שלהם חשפה פרטים על המועמד שהשפיעו באופן שלילי על המועמדות שלו!
הסקר נערך בחודשים יולי-אוגוסט בקרב 265 תוכניות MBA אמריקאיות, כולל התוכניות המובילות. ממצא נוסף של הסקר עסק בסיוע הכלכלי שבתי הספר מעניקים לסטודנטים, וגילה כי 36% מבתי הספר נתנו השנה יותר סיוע כלכלי מאשר בשנה שעברה, בעוד 17% נתנו פחות מבשנה שעברה ו-47% ללא שינוי.

כתבה שהתפרסמה בוול סטריט ג'ורנל מדווחת כי ע"פ נתוני GMAC היתה השנה ירידה של כמעט 10% בכמות האפליקיישנס לתוכניות full time MBA. זו השנה השלישית ברציפות בה נרשמת ירידה בכמות האפליקיישנס. שליש מתוכניות ה-MBA דיווחו על ירידה של יותר מ-10%, ע"פ הסקר שנערך ב-331 בתי ספר ברחבי העולם.
אחד ההסברים לירידה הוא כמובן מצב הכלכלה העולמית וחוסר הודאות לגבי העתיד, שגורם לפחות מועמדים לפנות ללימודי MBA מאחר והם לא בטוחים מה תהיה התשואה להשקעה שלהם. אגב, ירידה כזו נרשמה אפילו בהרוורד, שם התקבלו השנה רק 9134 אפליקיישנס, ירידה של 4% לעומת השנה שעברה, מה שתרם לעליית אחוז הקבלה בתוכנית מ-11% ל-12%.
למרות הירידה בכמות האפליקיישנס, בתי הספר מדווחים על עליה באיכות המועמדים, מבחינת ציוני ה-GMAT, ציוני התואר הראשון והנסיון התעסוקתי שלהם.

:טיפים נוספים (ואחרונים) לבחירת ממליצים– A recommendation from a family firm is usually not recommended if it is written by a family member. However, if it is written by someone senior in a big firm, who is not a family member, even though the firm is owned by the family, it may be ok. Some European schools (e.g. IESE) don't mind getting recommendations from family firms, even written by family members.
– A recommendation from a client is usually not recommended unless it is a very impressive client (big name firm). However, recommendations from clients can serve as a way out for people who have only worked in family firms and don’t have other potential recommenders to choose from.
– If possible, it is better to select recommendations that provide different angles on the candidate.
If two recommendations describe pretty much the same type of activity (e.g. rec. 1 – programmer in company A, rec. 2 – programmer in company B), one of these recommendations should probably be replaced.– Recommenders who are alumni of the same school that the recommendation is submitted to are more effective than non-alumni recommenders (not critical, but helpful).
– Recommendations from very big shots (e.g. government ministers, famous people) are great if the context is of mutual activity (preferably direct/indirect supervisor) and the content reflects acquaintance and excitement. If not, they don't necessarily help and may even hurt.
– Pay special attention to the "recommendations instructions" section that each school provides (instructions to the candidate – which recommenders to choose etc., and instructions to the recommender). Their specific requirements must be met.

– Recent relationships are better than "old" relationships.

פורבס פרסמו את דירוג תוכניות ה-MBA הטובות ביותר בארהב לשנת 2011. הדירוג שלהם מתבסס על נתון התשואה על ההשקעה (return on investment), ובודק את העליה בשכר של בוגרי מחזור 2006 לאחר סיום התואר בהשוואה לשכרם לפניו. בוגרי הרוורד, שמדורג במקום הראשון השנה, זכו לעליה המשמעותית ביותר במשכורות החציוניות שלהם – מ-$79,000 לפני התואר ל- $230,000 בשנת 2010, הכי הרבה מבין בתי הספר למנהל עסקים בארה"ב.

עוד קצת חדשות משוק העבודה, והפעם מצד המועסקים: סקר חדש של הוול סטריט ג'ורנל מגלה כי סטודנטים בבתי הספר המובילים למנהל עסקים בוחרים בחברות טכנולוגיות כמקום העבודה המועדף עליהם לאחר סיום התואר. ארבע חברות כאלה – גוגל, אפל, פייסבוק ואמזון – תפסו 4 מ-10 המקומות הראשונים של המעסיקים הנחשקים ביותר בסקר. חברת אמזון, למשל, נבחרה ע"י 10.6% מהסטודנטים שהשתתפו בסקר, עליה משמעותית לעומת 6% בשנת 2008.

להלן עוד כמה טיפים שיסייעו לכם בבחירת הממליצים:Schools prefer recommendations from bosses, unless they state otherwise (for example, Stanford sometimes requires one recommendation from a peer).
Schools prefer recommendations from a "direct supervisor". However, they also like recommendations from senior people:
– Ideally, the recommender will say: "I supervised his work".
– If a senior person that was not the direct boss can say something like "I supervised his work directly and indirectly and we worked intensively together during these X years" it may be better to take that person because he is more senior than the direct supervisor.
– A recommendation from a very senior person that also says something like this can work too: "Joe worked for a few different managers, I am here representing my own experience with him as well as the aggregate evaluation of our organization based on feedback that I collected from most managers who supervised him, data that I collected from his personal file and past performance evaluations".

כתבה שפורסמה בביזנסויק סוקרת את המצב בשוק העבודה לבוגרי MBA ואת נתוני הגיוס של החברות הגדולות. המסקנה העיקרית היא שהמגייסות המובילות צמצמו קצת את מימדי הגיוס של בוגרי MBA לאחרונה, בעוד חברות אחרות תפסו את מקומן וחטפו את הבוגרים הפנויים.
חלק מהחברות הגדולות שקיצצו בהעסקת בוגרי MBA בשנים האחרונות הן Lehman Brothers, Citigroup, Johnson&Johnson, Kraft, Bank of America. לעומתן, חברות כמו IBM, Apple, Amazon שלא גייסו בוגרים רבים בעבר, מילאו את החלל והחלו לגייס בוגרים בכמויות גדולות יותר. אמזון, למשל, הגבירו את גיוס בוגרי ה-MBA במישיגן, קלוג וברקלי בין השאר. ב-2010 IBM הפכה למגייסת המובילה בוורטון לאחר שגייסה 13 בוגרים.

סקר שנערך לאחרונה ע"י קפלן מגלה כי 48% מתוך 288 חברי ועדות קבלה שהשתתפו בסקר אמרו כי ציון GMAT או GRE נמוך הוא הגורם המשפיע ביותר על דחיית המועמד. הגורם שהגיע למקום השני (33%) הוא ציון תואר ראשון נמוך, ובמקום השלישי (10%) חוסר בנסיון תעסוקתי רלבנטי.

* Option A: The annual A. Lorne Weil Outrageous Business Plan Competition is a student initiative managed and run by the Columbia Entrepreneurs Organization (CEO). * Option B: Columbia deeply values its vibrant student community, the building of which begins at orientation when admitted students are assigned to clusters of 65 to 70 fellow students who take most of the first-year core classes together. Just a quick reminder: until the end of June the cost of Aringo work is a bit lower (by $15+VAT per hour) due to the low-season.
If you know that you're going to do certain Aringo work in July, and you can do it now, consider doing it until the end of June, it may reduce costs a little.
