re: lower GMAT: . We consider many factors in the decision – undergrad work; accomplishments; fit with Michigan; community service; career progression, etc.

If you don't think that you will be able to re-take the GMAT prior to applying, then submit your app with the GMAT you have. But, retaking it would be ideal. Also, if you don't re-take it before submitting your application, let us know if you have any plans for re-taking it. I would recommend that you keep up some GMAT study, in case of a wait-list decision, for example.

The Business School awards more than 30 scholarships each year to admitted international students with exceptional admissions credentials (merit-based). International students are encouraged to apply during one of the first two decision periods to receive full consideration for scholarships. Upon successful completion of the first year of the MBA program, awards may be renewed for the second year of study.

Re: finding our more about Michigan: Our website, http://www.bus.umich.edu is a great source of information. I suggest going to other pages besides just Admissions. For example, if you go to Academics, you can see the web sites of the various departments, such as the Finance Dept. If you go to Student Life, you can get to a list of Organizations and Clubs, and the websites of these clubs offer further insight into what is going on at Michigan.

Contact with the school in some way; e.g., through our MBA Ambassador program (see list on our Admissions website) – Michal Karnibad, who is on this chat, is an Ambassador. The benefit is that an applicant gains excellent insight into the School and what it's really like here, and this can be well reflected in the essay that asks about why Michigan is a fit.

If your recommender prefers to send the letter to us directly, that is fine; just make sure he/she makes it clear who you are.

Rec letters can be submitted online via Embark.

A letter format is fine. Sometimes recommenders mark the paragraphs with the question numbers; other times not. It is helpful if your recommender covers the key issues raised by the questions, regardless of the format.

re: application volume: We've only had one application deadline so far, and the numbers are down slightly. This may reflect the fact that our new essay qeustions came out at the end of summer, so some people wanted more time to work on the apps.

Also, with regard to the Class of 2005 apps:The Graduate Management Admissions Council did an application-trends survey that showed volume down 10% to 30%around the country. We were around 13% to 15% down for the Class of 2005. Granted, that's off a record high the year before. So keepthat in context. And we still saw applicants of amazing quality, just fewer than last year.

Another comment on Admissions and the process: Michigan interviews applicants at the start of the process, so it's up to the applicant to set this up. We do have alumni interviewers in Israel, and you can find them on our website.

We had about 25 applications from the Middle East, mostly from Israel. We have 3 in the Class of 2005; more were admitted but chose either another school or to stay at work. Off hand, I'd say the acceptance rate for Israeli's is better than the overall average admit rate.
