בוודאי שיש לחשב כל מקרה בנפרד, אבל זה לא משנה את העובדה שפערי ריביות בין מדינות לבדם לא משנים את עלות ההלוואה בפועל.

גם אני לא רוצה לתת הרצאה במימון לאף אחד, אבל אם בארה"ב הריבית נמוכה יותר ההגיון אומר שכולם ילכו ללוות שם (לא רק מישראל, מכל העולם). במצב כזה יהיה עודף של דולרים שמסתובבים בעולם, וכשאותם לווים יחזרו למדינות שלהם ויבקשו להמיר את הדולרים למטבע מקומי עודף ההיצע יחליש את הדולר. נכון שלא יהיה קיזוז מושלם כי ישנם גורמים אחרים כמו סיכונים בטחוניים באיזורים מסויימים וכו', אבל שוב, גם אם בישראל תהיה ריבית 20% ובארה"ב 0.5% זה לא אומר אוטומטית ששם כדאי יותר ללוות ולהיפך. זה כל מה שאמרתי.

1 Insead interview down, 1 to go…

Interviewer was an Oleh from Europe, very informal and friendly, pretty much let me talk about what I wanted, conversation could've easily lasted twice as long (found my WE intriguing and knows my former employer). Had some interesting insights as to student life and the problems Israelis sometimes face there (politics of course).

נעזרתי בארינגו וההצלחה שלי היא ללא ספק בזכותם.

לגבי בעלי, זו באמת שאלה טובה. וזה גם מה שהנחה אותי בכל תהליך בחירת בתי הספר אליהם להרשם.

אכן בלונדון זה יותר קל. בלונדון הוא מקבל אישור עבודה אוטומטי. לכן אנחנו יושבים ומחכים לתשובה מ- LBS שתגיע בעזרת השם (חמסה חמסה שום בצל) באמצע חודש הבא.

בארה"ב יש בעעיה עם ויזה אבל הבנתי שאפשר להסתדר עם ויזה J. אין לי עדיין מושג מי מה ואיך אבל אני יודעת שזה אפשרי.

אם נמצא את עצמנו בדיוק, זא אנחנו מקווים שהוא יצליח למצא עבודה ב- RTP (הוא מהנדס אלקטרוניקה). אם לא, אז אנחנו בבעיה רצינית.

אין לי שום כוונה שהוא יעצור את ההתפתחות המקצועית שללו בגלל ההרפתקאה שלי.

אגב, כשהיינו שם ראינו הרבה בנות זוג שעצרו את החיים שלהן ע"מ להיות "האישה הקטנה" או "עזר כנגדו". פגשנו רק בן זוג אחד (דווקא של סטודנטית ישראלית בקלוג) והוא הצליח להסתדר מבחינת מקום עבודה.

בקיצור – קל זה לא יהיה. הרבה תקדימים ואנשים ללמוד מהם אין.

אבל זה לא סיבה לא לעשות את זה…

Yariv,

There are two types of Student Visas: F & J. I don't know the different procedures for F and J (though I know for a fact that there is a difference). A J visa allows the student's spouse to work while the student is in school.

You will not be able to apply for either type before you are admitted and enrolled to a school. Only then will the school issue you a form called I-20 which states that you are, in fact, going to study there and that you have shown sufficient funds to finance at least the first year of your stay there. With this form you apply for a visa.

Once the student gets the J-1 visa his/her spouse can apply for the J-2 visa and they will live happily ever after…

If I were you, I wouldn't worry about it just yet. From my experience (and of those that I know here) the school will guide you and let you know exactly what to do in order to get the visa. If you are very concerned you can consult with an immigration lawyer, but again, there is still time for that.

I think it is the same waiting period for both an F and a J. It usually takes a few weeks between the time you apply for the visa (through the travel agency) and the time of your interview at the embassy. The student and the spouse go to the interview together.

As far as I remember, the visa is usually approved the same day of your "interview" but you'll receive your passport back only a few days later, again from the travel agency.

In addition to the J2 visa, the spouse needs to apply for a work permit, which can be done only when you are already here. The permit can sometimes arrive after 2 months form the time you apply for it. I don't think the permit is automatic. They want to see that the purpose of it is not to support the student but to develop the spouses own career. That's why you have to specify what you want to do here.

I don't know much about the F visa, but I don't think that the spouse can work with it.

In sum, it can be a drag, but it’s worth it.

You first have to be enrolled. The process strats only after the school send you an I-20 form and that will not happen until you're fully enrolled.

There's a downside to the J visa that you should be aware of. Since it's granted mainly to people who are "sponsored", they are expected to return to their home countries after school. That means that it's harder for them to get the OPT (Optional Practical Training) period of one year from graduation. If they want to stay and work, they need to find a company that would sponsor the H1B immediately.
