Hi Omer,
Compared to other European B-Schools, INSEAD grads have consistently had the best work prospects following their MBA studies, especially if your aim is Europe or Asia. These stats compare favorably with the to US B-schools despite being only 1 year. However, if your aim is the US (which does not seem to be the case) then you are probably better off going to a top US B-school.
Having said that, due to recent economic conditions, it hasn’t been easy in past years for Israelis to find work in Europe following their studies, although those who really tried succeeded.
Regarding INSEAD CMS – it has had to reshape its activities to adapt to the declining economic climate. Last year they brought in a new head and are improving. I work with CMS closely as my section’s Rep. They still have room for improvement, but are doing a better job.
Cheers,
Avital

Godzila and everyone else – please continue to post your queries. I am sure I am speaking for all of us when saying that it will be our pleasure to try and help you. It is our hope that after you guys get accepted to a top programme you would want to do the same for future candidates.
Cheers,
Avital
בתגובה ל: ארכיון 1: ???Any Israeli Applicants #267Hi Godzila,
I don't think that Danny was trying to be condescending, but rather giving his take on the issue. The thing is that this forum was set up by us to allow future candidates to hear what graduates, admitted candidates and future candidates have to say based on their experiences. As long as people try to help others, I thing they should enjoy the benefit of the doubt before being pounced upon.
I would really hate to see this forum become a place where someone can't voice his opinions without being considered an arogant self-centered prick. If we were such people we probably would not spend the time to help other people who wish to learn from our experience.
With regard to the issue at hand – it is true that some people manage to get accepted to a top tier MBA with a 640 Gmat score, but not many. Those that do get in usually have to have done some really special things to make it with this score. Us "normal" people would probably do ourselves a good service by trying to improve a 640 score if we want to attend a top 5 school.
Please try and tone it down so that this initiative continues.
Take care,
Avital
בתגובה ל: ארכיון 1: ???Any Israeli Applicants #242Hi Miki,
Drinking is part of the MBA program (at least at INSEAD) so that is definitely something to work on.
Regarding the time it took me for the application – it is really hard to say. I thought about applying to INSEAD at least a year before I applied (December 2002), but then our baby was born, I spent a month in "chomat magen" and I was working like crazy. I finally got around to doing the Gmat in May and to writing my applications in September.
So I guess you could say it took me 3 months to write my essays, but that wouldn't really be exact. I was thinking about it my essays since I saw the application forms (around February), but could only really spend time on it during the weekends after I started in September. You do the math – 3 + X – Y = ???
Anyway you need enough time to go throught the process and really think about what you want to say and how to say it. It is really personal how much time you need, but the sooner you start the better.
Take care and good luck,
Avital
בתגובה ל: ארכיון 1: ???Any Israeli Applicants #240Hi Miki,
Let me first introduce myself. My name is Avital Eliasov and I will be starting my studies at INSEAD in a few months.
The Montauk book is quite good to get in to the "mood" and to understand the MBA application process. Reading it will help you get ready for the "real work" which is choosing the program/programs that fit your needs, understanding their requirements and writing your application/s. It is a long process, but it pays to do it right the first time so you won't have to do it again.
Regarding editorial help – I think it would be wrong to go to such a service so they write your essays. I am not talking about the ethical ramifications, which are also important, but rather the "trueness" of your self-portrayal. Of course part of the process is to find out what the school wants to hear and to find the right stories to include in the essays, but these stories should be yours and ones that you feel truly represent yourself. In addition, the good editors cost a lot of money and I wouldn't use the services of one that isn't good. You can find out the names of some recommended ones from the Fulbright website.
These are the steps I recommend you take:
1. start your application process early.
2. research and find the right schools for you. (this would also probably be the best time to do your Gmat and Toefl)
3. take time to think about your essays and the way you want to represent yourself.
4. start drafting your essays and show the drafts of them to people who's opinion you value (it would also help if their English is good).
5. redraft your essays following the remarks you receive.
6. redo steps 4 and 5 until you feel very good with what you have written.
7. this step is optional, but I recommend it – go to an editor for final polishing. This will cost some money, but will help make sure that the effort you put in would not go to waste.
8. drink a lot and hope for the best.
Hope my 2 cents help.
Cheers,
Avital
