Hi,

It seems that the accelerated program is intended for people who do not need an internship – for instance, if you know where you are going to work afterwards, or if you want to save time.

In addition, the internship can help returning a large part of the tuition loans, so if you don't need a lone, that's something you can skip.

Visit to NYU and Columbia Campuses –

I went to visit both campuses for an information session last Thursday (28/4). It was just the exam period at both places, so there was no chance to visit a class.

Columbia –

The information session was interesting. The former student (graduated 2 years ago) talked about the studies: First year core studies, second is electives. Fontal lectures Vs Case studies -50% each. He mentioned the clubs, alumni, and the NY experience. He was very nice and casual, and also wanted to hear about us. We were 10 people that came to listen, from all over the world. It was really nice to see the vriaty.

Next day I went to the admissions pffice to ask a few questions, mainly about the visa types. They were very kind and responsive.

The campus is really nice and both times I was there, there was a great atmosphere.

NYU – The information session was pretty much the same, except that insteam of sitting in one room all the time, we walked around the building, saw the study rooms, the library, the group study rooms, the club offices, etc.

I asked about individual work Vs group work, and especially about cooperation between students regarding the individual work. They said that the atmosphere is not at all competitive, and people really want to help each other. I also asked about the jobs after school- is it important to get good grades, or is the fact that one went to NYU enough? He said that in most cases employers do not ask to see the grades, and "going to NYU" is enough.

Not much a a "campus atmosphere" there, so it's just a matter if you prefer the upper west side, or the lower middlle. Also, since it's harder to get accepted to Columbia, it is considered a better school.

Thanks for the answer. I have visited columbia and NYU campuses last week, and it all looks great. I talked tom Dalit, and she said you have a few tips for getting a J1 visa. Sponsors, etc. Can you please tell ot write me to [email protected]?

I am planning to visit NYU and Columbia at the end of April (28th). First, I wanted to ask if anyone can recommend what to look for, what questions to ask, who to meet with….

Bottom line – How can I get most information about those places with limited time?

Wow, thanks for the answers!!

Another winter in Chicago is out of the question! I love NY, and London has it's own advantages (close, etc.).

Truth is, I don't know where I want to work after graduating. I guess that this is too far ahead to decide now. I want to enjoy the studies and then see where the best place will be.

Is there no way for spuoses to work in the US? Or is it just not an "automatic" process?

Is the fact that one has travelled a lot in the world (south america, india, etc.) an advantage in the process?

שלום לכולם! הצטרפתי לפורום לאחרונה והבנתי שצריך לספר קצת על עצמי, אז קודם כל כמה דברים כלליים:
שמי איילת, אני בת 29, וכרגע גרה בתל אביב. בנוסף ללימודים ועבודה, הייתי מאד פעילה במסגרות רבות כל חיי, החל מהצופים, משלחות לארה"ב, משלחות מטעם הטכניון לגיוס כספים ולעבודה, ומאד פעילה באגודת הסטודנטים בתור יו"ר ועד הפקולטה בהנהלת האגודה ודוברת האגודה.

בחמש השנים האחרונות אני עובדת במעבדות המחקר של IBM בחיפה. בתחילה בתפקידי פיתוח בעיקר, ובשנתיים האחרונות בתפקידים שקשורים לשווק המוצר, קשר עם לקוחות, אינטגרציה, וניהול מוצר.

למדתי בטכניון לתואר ראשון בהנדסת מערכות מידע. סיימתי בממוצע 84.5
אני כרגע סטודנטית לתואר שני במערכות מידע, ונותרה לי רק כתיבת התזה. אני מניחה שאסיים עד לספטמבר 2006

אני מתעניינת להתחיל ללמוד בספטמבר 2006 בתוכנית מובילה בארה"ב (רצוי NY) או בLBS.

אודה למי מהחברים הותיקים שיוכל ללחוץ reply ולענות לי: פרטים על קולומביה, NYU, LBS – צורת הלימוד (Use cases, frontal, study groups, involvement in the business world), חיי הקמפוס, המלצות לגבי חיבורים – מה כדאי להדגיש?
בנוסף, לאחר הלימודים, הייתי רוצה לעסוק בBusiness Consulting או Marketing. איזה מהמקומות נותן דגש לתחומים אלה?

אני מתכוונת להשתתף באופן פעיל בפורום – בהתחלה לשאול הרבה, ולאחר מכן לתרום ממה שאלמד בתהליך הארוך והמיידע הזה.

Hi Gilam,

I heard about mbachances a while ago, and I said that I will probably do this process alone…. But a while has passed, and I am just to busy to do this alone.

I might need some help in this whole bureaucracy maze. I wanted to ask about my chances to get accpted to schools in NY (NYU, Columbia) and London – LBS (see my profile).

In addition, what do I need to do to start moving towards starting at Sep 2006 (NY, London)? (Haven't really started yet besides GMAT (670)).
