    lior11

    Dear Gilam,

first of all i wish to commend you on the fabulous job you are doing here. Bravo.

    A little about me:

I'm interested in an MBA in strategy/entrepreneurship, my main target is stanford (I'm shooting high).

    I'm 30 Y.O,
I have a bad GPA (77) (with some circumstances, expanded later) in my BA which is math and CS from T.A.U
I can get a very good GMAT
based on my experience I can (maybe with your help) get some very good applications.
I was a team leader for more than two years in an american high tech company, 90% of work in english(which I can get strong references from), including 2 months in Singapore, before that I worked as a QA engineer and programmer.
I have some volunteering background in the university (worked with a sick child in a broken home, worked in a nursing home) but not in recent years.
Alot of extracurricular backgraound(personal trainer on the side, writing articles to semi proffesional websites in a multitude of areas, and going now to start a company of my own in the area of nutritional supplements).
I did full military service, regular combat position, finished as sargeant with good reccomendations.

I am in the process of deciding on my ways in the next years of my life, and need some information to know if I should make some tactical decisions that will help me to be accepted to Stanford in 2007. (I will be 32 then, and don't mind the younger crowd), as a given I am assuming my current entrepreneuring will not make me a millioner.

    1. regarding my GPA, I can provide ADD documentation(which wasnt diagnosed yet when I was in BA) and some very special family circumstances. will any of these points balance my low GPA, this is especialy true of my family circumstances as those are very "private" but had a very real effect. I do not want to be seen as manipulative and using adversities I've been through as a crutch or leverage, but if that is how its supposed to be and I am entitled to it all fairness, than it may help balance out my poor GPA. this is a critical point that can balance my GPA greatly.

    2. Is there any point re:Stanford shooting for an extemley high GMAT or anything above X is the same or has a marginal benefit? what is X approximately? E.G I can shoot for 800 but is there any real benefit going over 750 which I can get with a lesser effort or any other number?

    3. I am currently NOT working due to an injury suffered, and I am awaiting surgery. I am using this time to find out about MBA, and maybe start my own business from home or study something, is that adversity of any siginifcant importance to the good side or the bad? is there anything specifc I should do with myself? the injury prevents me from getting any formal education right now.

    4. I am right now in california, is there any point going over to stanford and asking for somekind of counceling? could that hurt me in anyway and will that session have any effect at all on my admittance, granted I'm not comiiting any major felony during that session?

    5. Basically all of my questions come down to this: what kind of "other" is needed to offset bad GPA and not so impressive proffessional resume(I have seen aplications to stanford and the resume on those is simply… amazing). CAN I offset that? You can assume that if its a matter just hard work, no matter how voluminous, or a matter of writing/interviewing skill, I will do it. but is there anything else I shoulda/coulda/woulda been doing in my goal to be admitted?

If there is anything else missing from my above information that will help you help me advising me, please do tell me and I will post it here.

BTW I am a good friend of M. Pinto who was admitted to stanford this year with your help.

thanks, and kudos again for your hard work here

    Lior.
