Hi Gilam,

I have a quick question about the Duke application. Duke requests that the applicant list the other programs to which he/her is applying. Im applying to many schools (6-7) and dont want to list them.

How important do you think this issue is to the schools (and Duke in particular) that request this? Do you think it would be ok to just ignore this field? Or would they consider that disrespectful?

Hi Gilam,

I have a question about the optional essay. My undergraduate scores are probably lower than average (79 — I think this translates into a GPA of 2.9). I have two good reasons for this: (1) I am an "Oleh" and went to law school in Hebrew when my mother tongue is English; (2) I spent about 150 hours a month working my way through law school. I think I can write a few lines without sounding whiny about it.

However, I think my overall application is fairly strong. My GMAT is 720; I have 5 years of strong corporate work experience; I worked hard on my essays; and I have recommenders that will "speak" highly of me.

But I am concerned that they will take my low GPA as an indication that I can't take excel in their academic program. Would you suggest writing the optional essay? Or should I let the rest of my application speak for itself and not draw any more attention to my GPA?

Thanks (and thanks for all of the time you put into this — Ive read through many of your responses — they really help those of us that are ready to tear our hair out with this process!!)
