I cant believe you dimwits. Do you guys really consider yourselves to be top applicants for the leading schools with that grammar? Or are you just hoping that the Bschools are that desperate this year? which they must be if you guys are accepted…
All I can do is hope that you guys have used the grammar and spelling tools on your essays, or have you not heard of MS Word… they say it works.
So guys…. does it really worth it? Are you really worth it? Or are the Bschools that high….

Why is your text justified to the right? do you consider yourself to be a web savvy person? or is too hard to learn how to use the web browser?

well, you posted this today on BW on the Ask Sandy thread. if the so talented you got into Harvard, why would you ask sandy this question?

    From: WANGOT 11:30 am
    To: AskSandy /B SANFORDK1
    Sandy,

Your advice is highly appreciated. I have been working as a finance manager in a global blue chip consumer goods company in London (I am an international employee from Israel) for the last two years. Unfortunately I am very unhappy and think to move to a smaller outfit here in London (not exactly a blue chip, but a more enjoyable and fulfilling environment). Could this dramatically harm my chances at H/S/W? Will they wonder why I left? How can one explain this?

    Thanks!

    W

Gee, I wonder how's that possible – after all you are so nice to everyone, how come your environment is not enjoyable…

First, congrats on the admission and scholarship. In regards to your question, from what I have heard Smith has a good rep. in the US (not sure about international rep.), especially in the Washington D.C area. Specifically, it has a good investment management program with student managed funds.

Otherwise, like many other top 50 schools that are not top 10 – 15 – it is a good regional school lacking the international recognition of the “big” schools. Therefore, you may have to work a bit a harder to impress recruiters. Also, you should definitely check whether the firms recruiting on campus fit your career ambitions (if you are looking for a career in IB check if BB firms are among the recruiters). By the way, if I may ask, what criteria of your application do you feel made the admissions committee offer you the scholarship?

HBS has several fellowship funds. This include a “general” need-based fund, a fund for first year students who decide to pursue a summer internship with a nonprofit organization (“social enterprise”), a fund for first year students who decide to pursue a summer internship with a startup company in the hi-tech industry, a fund for second-year students who accept a job offer with a relative low compensation (“Supplemental EC Fund”) etc.

HBS describes the rational behind having so many fellowship funds as follows: “The HBS fellowship program is built on a strong tradition of giving back to the School and investing in its future. Fellowships allow the School to maintain its policy of need-blind admissions, enabling us to attract the best and brightest students regardless of financial capacity.”

The criteria for getting a fellowship from the need based fund are mainly:

    1. your pre-HBS gross salary
    2. your total assets (i.e., do you own an apartment, do you have any long-term funds etc.)
    3. your current ongoing expenses. For that matter, married couples – especially those that have kids – are more likely to get a fellowship (though many single students get it as well).

As I indicated in one of my past replies, every student is also eligible to CitiAssist student loans. The amount is around $130,000 for the whole program.

    Hope I was helpful.

    OK,

Congratulations to us, we have been accepted to the programs of our choice. Now that the party is over, does anybody have any ideas how we can finance this adventure (please ignore the obvious guarantied full tuition and expenses loans).

Any comments or ideas will be appreciated.

the school you got into should tell you what types of aid you gan get/apply to. it's very differend from school to school, so asking this question here is somewhat pointless.

outside scholarships/grants for MBA are non-existant as far as I know. some countries offer help to their students who want to study abroad, but you can imagine that Israel is not one of them.

bottom line, the only way for you to finance your studies is to get aid through the school, or if you have a GC, you can get help from the federal government (don't know what kind of help)

    good luck

    Thanks Omer,

I know that each school has its own policy and financial aid system, the question is are there any Israeli funding options (like Leumi's loans for Insead) or any other financing option for native non-american Israelis.

If you plan on going to a 2-yr. school and are very confident of your job prospects, AND willing to stay in that country (or any other high-salary country) for quite a few years (~10), then the NPV could work and the loans are just the thing you need. Although you would not be 'livin large'.

If you are going to H/S/W and find yourself coming back here as a middle manager, good luck my friend. Fortunately there are many options for moonlighting in parking lot security.

I want to spend only a few years abroad so I have downsized my plans accordingly and will apply to 1-yr's. That way I will have 1.5 mortgages and not 2…

Of course as a non-fiscal venture the MBA abroad has no downsides. But alumni won't pay your rent…

Sorry to read like the devil's advocate, but I don't see anyone else doing it on this forum. It is a LOT of money for us non-Nimrodi types.
