After looking very thoroughly into what financial options us international fellows have, I got a pretty dim picture. Does anybody have a good idea (to this very trivial question) as to what scholarship/loans are available to non-us citizens who apply for the top tier B-shcools ?

I admit that at the moment LBS seems the best option as far as funding such studies is concerned. I wonder, though, since a non-us citizen cannot apply for a US loan (unless a US citizen co-signs as a collateral…) how on earth one puts one's hand on such amounts?

I think a have a fair chance at the US but the financial burden that accompanies it seems unbearable.

Most of the top-tier US business schools have loans that don’t require US co-signer. These loans are designed for international students and in most cases cover at least the tuition. A school that doesn’t have these loans is in a huge disadvantage. Check with individual schools you are interested at by contacting the financial aid office.

אני מסיים בימים אלו את ה-Application ל-INSEAD ורציתי לשאול מספר שאלות בקשר לשאלון:
1. קראתי באיזה מקום שיש חשיבות לשאלון עצמו ואיך ממלאים אותו. קיבלתי את הרושם שהכוונה גם לסגנון ולא רק לתוכן. לדוגמא: מודפס או בכתב יד.
2. ישנם סעיפים שחוזרים על עצמם. האם למלא אותם או לכתוב: "ראה סעיף…". לדוגמא: כתובת קבועה מול כתובת למשלוח דואר. כנ"ל פקס וטלפון קבוע שהם הטלפון בבית וכו'.
3. סיוע כספי – האם בזה שאני כותב שאני שוקל לבקש מלגה אני מרע את סיכויי? למה שואלים את זה כחלק מה-App?
4. GMAT/TOEFL – ביקשתי שהתוצאות ישלחו ישירות לבית הספר. האם To be sent הכוונה שישלח בעתיד (רק עכשיו עשיתי את המבחן) או הכוונה גם למה שעשיתי. בכל מקרה, איך אני יכול לצרף את תוצאות המבחן – אין לי שום מסמך רשמי שאי אפשר לזייף בקלות יחסית. אני בעיקר מודאג מזה שהם יעכבו את ה-App בגלל זה ואני לא אדע.
5. אין לי Academic Distinctions וכנ"ל בפעילות אקסטרא. כמה זה חשוב? (הרבה אין לי מה לעשות פה…)
6. עבודה זמנית – השכר הוא לשעה. האם להפוך לשכר שנתי (להכפיל ב-180 שעות ו-12 חודשים…) או לא?
7. חשיפה בינלאומית – יש לי רק טיולים קצרים (שבועיים) לחול. (כמו 5)

אני יודע שזה קצת קיטבגי מצדי, אבל בכל זאת השקעתי הרבה זמן ב-App ולא ממש בא לי לפשל על שטויות כאלה.

My name is Yishai and I am a first year student at Anderson School of Business ( UCLA ).
I know that this is the application time and a lot of you guys start to send applications to top b-schools all over the world.

I want to use this opportunity to leverage the Israeli connection at Anderson and to elaborate on my decision process ( since i stood in your shoes one year ago ).

I came from a high tech background ( 7 years in the military as a section manager in one of the intelligence units, 1 year as operations manager in a bioinformatic company, 0.5 year in business development in a family business ). Following the school I intend to focus on Venture Capital, business development or Managment Consulting ( Hi Tech related ).

I decided to choose Anderson based on several factors:

A. Location !! The west-coast is an amazing experience ( especially LA ) –
superb weather, lots of outdoor opportunities, great lifestyle.
B. Very good reputation and brand ( especially in the west-coast )
C.Emphasize on entreprenurship ( Altough its a well rounded school ) and proximity to
Hi tech centers.
D. Profile of the studnets and great atmosphere.

The school fell in the ranking after the High-Tech collapsed ( especially since a lot of
the studnets were entreprenurs ).
This year we have three Israelis at Anderson, and the school is doing a lot to improve its
ranking and its placement rate ( You can read about the initiatives in the website ).

If anyone need some help with the decision process or with the application to Anderson,

Hi Omer,

3 is considered a lot by the GSB, usually it was 2 max

We are working very hard with admissions (all the Israelis are members of the admissions committee for example) to get more Israelis to the school

we beleive this year more will be accepted, Don Marting our dean of admissions is coming in November to Tel-Aviv (first time ever) so I suggest to go to the event on Nov 5th

As far as I know, most schools require that you not only hold a European citizenship but also that you live in the 3 years that precede your attending the school (they do not consider studying abroad as 'living') in the European union to be qualified for some considerations.

Hello Tzafrir,

I am a current student at IMD. I know of no non-merit based scholarships, at my school, that relate to (Western) European citizenships. Students received geography based scholarships from Africa, Eastern Europe and Latin America. There are also scholarships for women. Saying that, all these scholarships are partial (except for one Latin American one which was a full scholarship). Don't expect to find large scholarships at top schools but most have loans to cover tuition.

As far as the admissions process goes, IMD really appreciates multi-country experiences. It is very common among my 90 classmates (41 nationalities!) to have been born in one place, lived in another, worked or studied in a third etc. You will have to show openness to multi cultural experiences as part of the admission process. I have been here for ten months and as part of the curriculum I have traveled all over Western Europe, been to two countries in Eastern Europe (first time for me) and just returned from two and a half weeks in China (also first time for me). What really surprised me is that in China I had no cultural shock whereas a few years ago, when I began working outside of Israel for the first time, in London, I did have culture shock. I have worked closely and have strong friendships with my Chinese classmates, we did numerous case studies on business in China and I guess that prepared me.

I will not trouble you again with this reminder, but Amir and myself just came back from Don Martin office (Chicago GSB Dean of Admissions) to give him some final thoughts regarding his visit.

He is really looking forward for this visit, and knowing Don I really think this is an event worth attending even if the GSB wasn't on your list, just to get a feel of "what are they looking for" from a senior person from the admissions.
