In reply to applicant_04 from February 05 2004 on 12:14
Hi,
I didn't get any scholarship, but I don't think they announced it already at all.
There is a first-year Israeli student there that got the sweet-deal – full scholarship. E-mail me ([email protected]) if you want his details.
About the dilemma: If I were in your situation, I would have chosen CMU, because the whole MBA issue is an investment. Therefore you should look at the long range, and then the value of the degree from CMU is a major consideration even if it costs more now.

This is not a good question, but this is the way to solve it, given the answers.
I you assume that each kiwi is the same as the others, and that each bannana is the same as the others, the answer is simply – 1

Question #1:
If the question is "how many different ways are there to devide the fruit…?"
The way to solve is: Note that there is no difference between the baskets – the way you fill one of them automatically puts the rest in the other basket. Also there is no "first" or "second" basket. There fore, all you need to find is how many ways are there to fill ONE of the baskets.
The formula to choose K out of N w/o importance to the order is:
N!/[K!*(N-K)!]
Since ther are 3 kiwwis, and each basket must contain at least 1 of them, ther could be either 1 or 2 kiwwis in each basket:
for the kiwwis: N=3, K=1 (or 2, the result is the same)
for the bannanas: N=7, K=4 (or 3, the result is the same)
[3!/(1!*2!)] * [7!/(4!*3!)] = 105 ==> D is the right answer

About question #5- note that x=16 but the answer is 18!!
Question #6 – should be solved by placing out-of-range values an elimmination of wrong answers

Dalit,
On top of what I wrote to you in the mail, I think you should be aware of how important the work permit is. Hi-tech companies are not Moishe's HOVALOT – if your partner won't have the right Visa or greencard, they will not hire him. Check the visa link I sent you and even call the embassy.
The work permit issue is a problem to many MBAs, too. There are many companies that don't hire internationals.
Moshe.

I heard about it too.
What kind of a criteria is that? (doesn't mean I won't take it…)
1: ???Any Israeli Applicants #1860Of what I heard from current students (including some who interview candidates themselves)- always wear business attire, unless otherwise instructed.
You can't control much of the interview, so you can't afford the possibility of making a bad impression right at the beginning. So, wear a suit, shave etc. Many interviewers may consider anything else as lack of seriousness on your side, which is never good.
Worst case scenario – it will be hot, and you'll need to wake up 15 minutes earlier to tie the tie (like I needed…).
Moshe.

GMAT-760 TOEFL-293

Hi Assaf,
Thanks for responding so fast.
As I wrote, I almost gave up on Chicago because I thought that the admitted students got their replies on Sunday and that that was it for this round. Don's call really surprised me.
The weather is not a factor in my decision. Much more crucial is the study prospects for my girlfriend. She is interested in doing an LL.M. . Although the University of Chicago is out of her scope, Northwestern is a posibility. Same goes for Duke – Both law schools are definetily in her reach and my decision is subjected to this consideration more than to anything else, really.
Correct me if I am wrong – I understand that there are currently 3 Israelis in the first year. How many do you think will be accepted this year (3 already had been accepted, and this is just the first round)?
Moshe.

Just got a phone call from Don Martin from Chicago, and I made it in.
BTW – 2 Israelis were admitted to Duke this round (not 1).
Moshe.

I gather that you applied to Chicago as well.
Where did you have your interview? Do you have any idea how many other Israelis applied this round (I know of two other than me)?
1770In reply to gbiron from January 11 2004 on 15:11
Initially, my #1 choice was Tuck. Since I'm not going alone, but with my girlfriend (who is interested in an LL.M., while Dartmouth doesn't have a law school), I had to give up this school.
If I get a positive reply from Chicago, I guess the choice will be between Chicago and Duke. Yet, I don't want to jump ahead of myself, and I leave those thought to when I will have all the results.
As for my stats:
I have a BA degree in Computer Science and Economics from Tel Aviv University. My GPA is 82.
I have been working as a QA Engineer for a small software start-up company for the last 1.5 years. Before that I was a security officer in NATBAG (with periodical re-enforcements at Israeli embassies abroad), for the whole duration of my studies (4 years). Before that I was in the army – I was an officer (Platoon Leader) in an armored infantry unit (HERMESH). All in all, not a very impressive resume, but I managed to get the most out of it.
GMAT: 760. TOEFL: 293
Moshe.
P.S. – are you related to Ziv Biron from Wharton?
1767I was accepted to Duke, Dartmouth and Cornell in the first round.
I also applied to Chicago GSB and Carnegie-Mellon in that round, but those schools had not released their answers yet (Chicago will do so by January 23rd and CMU by January 31st).
