סיכויי הקבלה בסיבוב 3 הם כמו אלו בסיבוב 1 ו 2.
העיקר לא להגיש ברביעי, בו הסיכויים נמוכים משמעותית.

    בהצלחה

    Hi,

I am not an expert in assessing your chances. That's why Gilam is here in the next thread.

In genera stress international experience and exposure (diversity is huge in the school), leadership, team work and why you really want to come to LBS.

Hope it helps. Let me know if you have more specific questions. also suggest you read a little bit back in this thread and I promise you'll finad a lot of useful info.

    Good luck,

    D.

LBS has a few scholarships offered. To some you are beng considered automatically and for some you need to apply. If I am not mistaken you will get more info later, and final decision is made around June.

    Yes!!!

If the only language you speak is English than in order to graduate you MUST pass a level 2 exam in another language.

You can take french, arabic, chinese, spanish, etc.

As an Israeli you have Hebrew.

The only question you should ask yourself is are you really going to business school and paying all this money in order to learn another language? There are so many great electives, and the choice is hard anyways…

    Just a thought.

Let me start with listing the companies that recruited on campus this year and last year (well, those that I remember, from the whole HC industry spectrum, i.e, pharma, medical device, biotech, consulting & IT):

    Pfizer
    Medtronic
    Novartis
    Roche
    Lilly
    Amgen
    Cerner
    Zs

Most of the EU HQs are in Switzerland, so quite a few of my class spent their summer in Lauzanne and Bazel.
So… as you see the big ones are recruiting in Europe. Most of them offer leadership rotational programs. Those programs are usually new and might be at this stage less structured than those in the US, but this could also b a good thing (offers more flexibility)

I am not sure what d you mean by "problematic". The market is highly regulated which I think just akes things more interesting. I don't know about the differences in the EU model.

The HC club in school is very active (I am less involved in this particular one). In term of tools – there are quite a few cases that deal with HC in many of our classes, and many guest speakers. More practical tools – I am not sure. I tend to take the practical classesthat offer me skills and tools that I can apply in every job in the future.

I hope this answers your questions. Let me know if you need more information. I would also be more than happy to put you in touch with the HC club people to get more information.

    Cheers,

    oh, yeah? well…

    1. We have a pub attached to the school, with area for group meetings!
    2. This is NOT the students bar. We have one of those too.
    3. I wish I could post here some pics from our costum party last week.

    Now who's is bigger? :-)

and one more comment… I probably should elaborate more about the comparison between the schools : It seems that differences are generaly between US schools and European ones.

But still, we have more fun!! our lasts for 2 years.

hmm… student life at LBS… a few comments that I hope will provide you a good insight:

    1. A friend of mine is dating a non-LBS british guy (tfu!! How dare she??). Anyway during the first year he kept laughing at us that whenever we go out (clubbing, drinking etc), its a group of at least 150 people… So… yes. We are enjoying the city, and we do that in big big big groups. Don't forget that 90% of the class don't know anyone in London except for their classmates.

    2. This might sound as codes but here are a few nicknames of the biggest social events at school:
    Tattoo
    Santa Pub Crawl
    Sundowners

    3. During the last summer I worked with 9 more interns. 6 of them were not from LBS, so we spent a lot of time comparing schools. The conclusion: At the end all of us get the same jobs. It seems that in LBS you just have more fun on the way… it's less work work work, but more: work, drink something drink some more and work again.

Hope it helps. Let me know if you need more info on any of those ;-)

The article below brings a great example to an annual event that happens in school, led by students, and organized completely by students (including contacting the speakers). I took part in the organizing team for the last 2 years, and this time I am very proud… we made it Ynet!!! yeyyyiiii

This event was held on Friday, and you can read on it in the FT and other big and important newspapers (and ynet :-))

You mantioned you did some kind of financial analysis comparing (I assume) salries and cost of living in France and NL vs. Israel, and surprisingly you found that a post MBA careerin Israel isn't such a bad idea.

I am just about to start my second year in London Business School.

If you are married (mazal tov!!) your husband gets a working permit automatically.

The program is a 2 year program, and everything is possible. just make your choice…
I think you will leverage the experience if you stay abroad and gain some work experience there before coming back to Israel.

I am VERY VERY happy with my choice!

    OK… I will try… although, personally I didn't find a special Israeli angle…

Job search was done through the "official chanels" aka career services and through personal channels aka networking. some peopel are networking mahines and are rally good in small talks. I hate it. So what I did was just getting involved in all the clubs I am interested in and start organizing events. I started working closely with the compnies I am interested in and at the end the right people there know me not because I bought them a cup of something but because I showed them how I work and what I am capable of.
today I am the point of contact in the school to some of the companies I am interested in and some of them even send me job openings to forward to career services :-)

(BTW – we are talking industry, not IB / consulting)

after attending LBS for a year, and sitting in classes with a real diverse student body (9% brits, 15% US, 57 countries ina class of 325) adjusting to a different culture was easy. I hated Switzerland but this is something completely different ;-)

Job interviews – the more you practuce the easy it gets.

no issues being international, as I said – in my class we all are.

I did a marketing project in a leading med device company. with no marketing experience. I loved the job, loved the company, hated bing out of London. and today is my last day. yeyi!
I wrote here bfore, that one of the best things that summer job allows you is tasting a job and a comany. now I now that I love marketing but I hate working in HQ. too "clean" for me. Need more operational work, not just PPT creation…

I actually did use a consultant.

The essay about your career goals is the same for all schools, right? right. well, some minor changes here and there.

Your essay about why this school would change after the visit, right? so leave it in an unpolished version, unless you have a really good feeling about the school.

If you are not ready, postpone admission to second round. No harm done.

I visited in early October. Take into consideration that in many places it is very early in the term, and you don't get to see 'real life' .
what I did was to have my essays ready for the schools I knew I am applying for sure, and just add / drop insights from the visit, so I was ready for first round.

I'd rather not to… i think both cases were individual experiences and impressions, which i would prefer they'd stay like this and not cause any bias.

    and here is my perspective:

I visited 5 schools before I applied. The only school that I didn't visit was the one that I am going to – LBS. the reason for not visiting there was that I knew that if I get in I am going, no matter what my other options are, and due to personal reasons.

I decided to visit 5 schools. Some of them I considered applying, some where not an option but since i was in the area, I decided to pop in.

    and here's what happened:
I ended up NOT applying to some of the schools I thought I will apply for sure, and i applied to schools that I never considered (well, I must say that KASSIFO helped ;-)).

    so here is my point:
the visit is not for the admission team. it is for you. For you to be able to talk to to students, face to face, feel the environment, take a look of the location etc.

I will give you an example – i went to a finance class in school X. The prof. started by handing back assignments. He wrote on the board a list of IDs. He said that they didn't get a grade for the assignment because they handed in a typed write up.
For me this was enough to know that I don't belong there. And trust me, there would be no current student who will tell you about such a thing.
Some things you see and learn just by being there.

I do think that visiting a school can affect the admission team. One of the schools that I waas really excited about (before I visited and even more after) offered me a scholarship, and I am sure that the personal contact I made during my visit with one of the prgram maangers helped.

I think it's a very individual experience, and even more individual what you can gain from it.

try to arrange a meeting w/ the Israeli students there. Try to make sure you sit in a class, although I would sit in a class not on open day, wen they bring the best prof. on campus. Try maybe to arrange a class visit on another day.

Usually on the school's website you have links to online registration, and if not just contact the MBA office. I would make sure anyway that they know you are there. The least (and probably max) it will do is give you a few extra points for the effort of visiting the school.

    Hi Yuval,

First I think that when thinking about a 1 or 2 year program, you need to consider also other things except for the cost. the main thing is the opportunity to really take the time and think about what you want to do when you grow up (for me it was he main thng I did this year. I changed about 50 careers, and managed to eliminate of my list on ly 50%… so I still have what to do next year). Other than that the opportunity to do an internship is a great great great opprtunity (did I say how great it is?). I mean, when else you will have a chance to "taste" a work place and a job for 3 months, and see if you like it or not?

The last thing that in my case makes a 2 year program so valueable is the break of life. After 2 days in the internship most of my friends realized again why they are doing MBA… just because it is so much fun! and it's not work (well, I keep saying that I am working so much harder than I used to when I was paid, but I don't have a boss, and I choose what to do). So now that we are working it is great knowing that this is only temporary, and the fun continues in two months! You won't believe how much fun it is, and how fast time flies.

    and now, to your questions:

I have no clue about cost of living for a couple +1 (yet). I do know that as a couple we spend around 2500£ incl. rent per month. It's a lot, but, I have to say we are "living" so much more than we used to when we were home. We are going out a lot, drink a lot, eat in nice restaurant… and it is London, so shopping is also part of our expenses ;-)

I have no clue about costs of living in other places, except for Lausanne, where I spend the summer. Food is at least as expensive as London. Transportation as well (I would say you must get a car there).

One more thing: PLEASE think about your partner when making the decision. Will your partner have the same opportunities in any of these places as she will have in london (language, thngs to do after work, weekends, etc.). You are going to be VERY VERY busy. I can tell you (and this is my own personal opinion) that I found Lausanne boring. There is a lot to do n the weekends, around town, but during the week I feel like i will die there and nobody will notice (this is my personal view. but I am a VERY VERY urbanic person).

    I hope I helped…
