Hi oded,

I have no clue what problems you are talking about. All my classmates have internships, and it seems like we are facing a really busy recruiting season next year…

as for why LBS (over US schools) here are my main reasons:

1. Location

2. Diversity – 325 ppl from 57 countries (only 15% Americans, 9% brits)

3. Class size – I am happy to say that i think I know ~85% of my class.

4. Automatic working permit for partner

I am not sure what you mean by recruiting experience… I can only tell you that I am interested in 'industry" jobs: I had around 10 different interviews in the specific areas I was looking into, around 3 consulting interviews.

I am ending up somewhere in Europe (not the UK), in the healthcare industry, in a marketing position.

You can imagine what is the real challenge in such a diverse environment: to choose the right team to support. France? Argentina? Italy? England? I guess I will need a different outfit for every match, depends on in which house I am going to watch it…

As for the advantages over other programs in Europe:

First – Location… can't bit the location.

Second – 2 year program. You have enough time to do everything you want.

Third – diverse student body (my class: 325 ppl, 57 countries…)

I can tell you about my experience, which I guess is unique to me, because of what I am looking for and to the school I attend (LBS).

I am interested in industry jobs. Those are either posted on the school portal or networking (I didn't see the miracles of networking do their thing yet). Usually there are 2 rounds – first on the phone / in the school, second in the company offices. Fit interviews, nothing professional.

One more effort we are doing in order to find a job is career trek. And actually I am writing now from San Francsico (thank you stanford guys, I know I promised a special post… coming soon). Visiting firms, expanding the network, etc.

I don't know much about IB, but consulting has crossed my mind (for a very short time). Interviews are case interviews (2 rounds), which you need to practice as much as possible. I think practicing cases is good also if you are not interested in consulting, because they help you think in a very structured way. LBS consulting club is providing a case book, and tons of mock interviews (you can do at least one a week for 3 months). Also, many students practiced cases informally in small groups.

אם אתה מחפש את החוויה הבינלאומית, הניסיון, החשיפה לחברות ולאנשים שאין הרבה סיכוי שהיית נחשף / מכיר אחרת, אז לדעתי המחיר שווה.

אם אתה מחפש סביבה מוכרת, תרבות מוכרת, אז אין ספק שאוניברסיטת ת"א מתאימה יותר.

לבד? אני לא לבד לרגע, ועל חברי הטובים נמנים לא מעט "גויים". בשביל זה אני פה. אולי זה קצת פחות נעים בימים כמו היום, דקה וחצי לפני הסדר, אבל וואלה – גם לזה נמצא פיתרון – בדיוק חזרתי מלאסוף ת'משפוחה מהית'רו…

השאלות צצות עכשיו, בדיוק מאותה סיבה שזו גם התקופה היחידה בה חושבים על העלויות. פתאום זה נראה ממש ממש יקר. תוך כדי תהליך הקבלה אתה לא חושב על זה, וכשאתה כבר כאן אז זה גם כבר לא אישיו. כשאתה בין לבין, זה מה שמעסיק אותך. זה האתגר התקופתי (אנחנו תמיד צריכים אזיה אחד כזה ברקע, לא?)

Hi Eyal,

I am not sure about the numbers but I know that quite a few of my class mates got jobs in consulting through the milkround (this how the period in which all consulting firms and bank come to campus to recruit). There are two issues to consider:

1. London is the most competitive office. The chances will grow if you apply to another office.

2. (And this is the important point) Consulting firms are hiring significantly less for summer than to full time. Of course, if you work there in the summer it will make the full time recruiting easier, but if not – it is still very doable! (Check the full time stats in order to compare).

Re. job search for partners: We thought it will take him about 6 month to find a job. He got his offer on the last day of my first term (3.5 month after we got here). The difficulties are in writing a proper CV, and the recruiting process that is much much longer than that we are used to in Israel (he got the offer from the first company he intervied with. it took 3 month).

הקריטריון הזה חשוב כי בסופו של דבר המוניטין של הבי"ס בתחום מסויים הוא שיקבע איזה מעסיקים יגיעו לקמפוס לגייס.

למשל….

אני לומדת ב- LBS – בי"ס מובהק ל-FINANCE.

למה? בעיקר בגלל המיקום שלו – הבירה הפיננסית של אירופה.

איך זה משפיע עלי? זה אומר שהרוב המוחלט של החברותש באות לגייס בקמפוס הן בנקים. אני מעוניינת בבנק? מעדיפה למות לפני זה. אני עוד לא ממש תפסתי איך כותבים צ'ק…

אבל… היו קריטריונים אחרים שמשכו אותי לשם (ארופה, אישור עבודה לבן זוג). ועכשיו אני עובדת ביחד עם הקלאבים השונים ופועלים להבאת החברות שמעניינות אותנו לקמפוס. מה גם שלבי"ס יש BRAND מספיק חזק שיכירו אותו. ואז כשאני ניגשת לחברה שמעניינת אותי יש לי את השם של הבי"ס. חצי מחיפוש תהליך העבודה הוא נטווריקנג בכל מקרה…

Hi,

From what I see around me, those who are sponsored get the full tuition. More than that – it differs. Some get only a laptop, some get flights home, some get some assisstance with living expences.

They are usually asked to commit for 2-4 years, when ususally they can do the summer internship somewhere else (not always, though). Also, some of them can cancel their commitment by paying back the full amount to the company.

אני מקווה שעכשיו ההודעה הזו תישלח… זו כבר פעם שלישית שאני מנסה..

נתחיל מזה שאני כולה סטודנטית. לא מקור מוסמך מטעם אף אחד.

לגבי העלויות:

שכ"ל 21 אלף פאונד בשנה. זה הרבה כמו שזה נשמע, מצד שני זה כמו שכ"ל בארה"ב

עלות המחיה תלויה בך: האם אתה מגיע לבד או עם בן/בת זוג, ילדים? האם אתה רוצה לגור קרוב לבי"ס, עם שותפים, כמה שותפים, כמה בירה אתה שותה בחודש, כמה וודקה אתה שותה (עולה פי 3 מבירה) וכו'. אני יכולה להגיד לך שאנחנו כזוג מוציאים בסביבות 2200 פאונד בחודש (וזה הרבה יותר ממה שזה נשמע). אבל אנחנו חיים טוב, ולא ממש מתקמצנים. מה גם שאנחנו גרים קרוב לבי"ס שזה אחד האזורים היקרים בלונדון, והיה נראה לנו ממש לא הגיוני לחלוק דירה עם שותפים (למרות שיש לא מעטו זוגות שעושים את זה). מלגות לא חסר. לחלקן צריך להגיש בקשה בנפרד (לפני ואחרי שמתקבלים) ולחלקן אתה מועמד אוטומטית אחרי שהתקבלת.

לגבי חיפוש עבודה: האפשרויות העומדות בפני בוגר ישראלי הן אותן אפשרויות העומדות בפני אמריקאי, הודי קנדי וכו'. תלוי מה אתה רוצה לעשות כשתהיה גדול ומה עשית לפני הלימודים. לא ממש הבנתי את השאלה לגבי איפה יש ביקוש לבוגרי LBS. האם הכוונה לסקטור? חברות? מיקום ג"ג?

לגבי שאר השאלות, בלינק המצ"ב תמצא את הדו"ח המעודכן ביותר בעניין השמת בוגרים.

Media companies usually dont frecruit on campus (actually, many industry companies in general don't), but many ppl find jobs through networking and events orgenized by the club.
