אני התראיינתי לקורנל בטלפון כי כבר התקבלתי לדרדן וגם – לא בא לי לטוס רק בשביל זה. בכל מקרה – זה לא מומלץ, אני עשיתי את זה כי לא היה אכפת לי.

בשלב זה אני מניח שאם כל שאר התשובות יהיו שליליות אני אסע לשם כדי לראות את קורנל (זה המקום היחיד שלא הייתי בו) ואז אחליט בין השניים.

ממליץ בחום לראות בעיניים לפני שאתה מחליט – יש לזה ערך אדיר! (כמו שכתבתי כבר כמה פעמים בפורומים כאן).

I interviewed with Ronen Melnik – a very nice and smart guy.
It was pretty relaxed and laid-back interview almost like a conversation. Regular questions, no surprises. He honestly wants to know what you're about and whether you understand what you're doing.
I wore business attire (suite) – in this matter I disagree with Gilam, I think it's better to overdress then underdress – even if the interview is in Israel.

אני כן חושב שחשוב מאד לבקר בקמפוס (כפי שכבר ציינתי) זה מראה גם על רצינות וגם נותן לך פרספקטיבה טובה יותר לגבי השאלה הנצחית – "למה אצלנו?".

אני ביקרתי בכל בי"ס שרציתי להרשם ואיפה שיכולתי גם התראיינתי, את שאר הראיונות אני עושה בארץ או בטלפון, ולכן אני לא יודע לגבי תיאום כמה ראיונות באותה תקופה. נראה לי שאפשר לנסות – בזהירות.

לדעתי, יש לך את כל הסיבות להתראיין בקמפוס ואף סיבה להתראיין בטלפון. (מלבד העניין הכספי).

אני התראיינתי בטלפון מחוסר ברירה (סיפור ארוך) ואין לי ספק שאם הייתי מתראיין פנים-אל-פנים הייתי מקבל תשובה חיובית. אגב, אני נדחתי לסיבוב השני ואקבל תשובה בעוד חודש וחצי.

אני חושב שחשוב מאד שיראו אותך. גם כדי להראות רצינות – והם מאד מתרגשים מזה שאתה בא במיוחד, וגם כדי שתוכל להעביר את המסר שלך באמצעות שפת גוף.

זה לא רק שהמראיין לא רואה אותך, אתה גם לא רואה אותו. אני מצאתי את עצמי מדבר ומדבר בלי לקבל שום סימן לגבי מה הצד השני חושב על מה שאמרתי. לא יכולתי לראות הבעות פנים ולא שפת גוף ולכן יכול להיות שלא עזבתי נושא שהייתי אמור או שלא המשכתי נושא חשוב. כמובן שבראיון פנים-אל-פנים הייתה לי היכולת להעריך טוב יותר את תגובת הצד השני.

עד עכשיו אין לי שום כלי להעריך איך היה הראיון שלי, ולכן אני ממליץ בחום לטוס לשם או להתראיין באירופה. זו, אגב, הזדמנות נהדרת לראות את הקמפוס שזה לדעתי הדבר הכי חשוב בכל התהליך הזה. אני הייתי בכל בי"ס שהגשתי אליו וזה שווה המון!

It's a merit-based scholarship and I didn't do anything special to get – they consider everyone who gets an offer.

I don't think it'll change my preferences but it's nice to hear…

I submitted my application a couple of days before the deadline and was invited for an interview at the end of November.
Note to all of you guys who are using web-based email accounts (Hotmail, Yahoo!…) – I did not receive their email inviting me for an interview, and I only learned about it 2 weeks later when they called me to see why I haven't responded. By that time it was too late for an interview in Europe so I had no choice but to do a phone interview!

They told me I'm a good candidate…however they cannot offer me a place at this time…and would like to defer me to round 2. They specifically said it's not a waitlist status but rather asked me to wait until they consider round 2 applicants. No one I talked to knew exactly what it means but I'd like to think I'm a little bit better off than on waitlist. I did have a phone interview, by the way.
Did any of you guys heard of it?? Any ideas?

שלום לחברי הפורום

אני נמצא בעיצומו של תהליך הקבלה (לקראת 2004) ל-top 10 וחסר לי מידע איכותי לגבי איזה בי"ס נחשב טוב באיזה תחום. אני מגיע מרקע של IT אבל מתכוון גם "לקרוץ" קצת לכיוון ה-Finance. אשמח לשמוע כל Insight בנושא.

בנושא אחר, אני מתלבט האם לבקש מכתב המלצה מאדם שעבדתי תחתיו ישירות ומאד מעריך אותי, אבל האנגלית שלו לא טובה. גם אם אני "אעזור" לו בניסוחים, מה ידוע לכם – האם האוניברסיטה בד"כ גם מדברת עם הממליצים בטלפון או בכל דרך אחרת?
