שלום לכולם.

שמי אלדד, אני אחד מ6 הישראלים שלומדים כעת שנה ראשונה בHBS (יובל, גיא, אביחי, דני, וגיא – class of 2006).

כמעט כולנו בוגרי הפורום (mbachances) ומודעים לעניין הרב שיש לכולם במידע אמין ומעודכן. יש המון שמועות לא מבוססות וסטראוטיפים שמסתובבים על HBS, חלקם ממש רחוקים מהמציאות. שמענו על אנשים שבחרו לא להגיש אפליקיישן לHBS מכל מני סיבות שונות ומשונות, וחבל. חשוב לנו שתדעו שHBS הנו בי"ס מדהים, ולא רק בגלל הקמפוס.

כאשר הגעתי לכאן במרץ האחרון לראיון, הדבר הבולט ביותר בו הבחנתי הוא הפער האדיר בין המוניטין של המקום כלא ידידותי ותחרותי מאוד, לבין המציאות – מצאתי כאן אנשים מדהימים ששמחו לעזור ולייעץ. מאז שהשתקעתי כאן ניסיתי למצוא את השחצנים המלאים בעצמם בהם התפרסם המקום, אני עדיין מחפש. אז אם יש לכם דעות קדומות על המקום או על תהליך הקבלה – עדיף שפשוט תשאלו, אנחנו ננסה לתת לכם תמונה מדוייקת יותר של המציאות כאן.

Thanks! I enjoyed my visit to MIT very much. Everyone was nice. I think I had a good interview. It was about an hour long, and at the end, my interviewer wanted to hook me up with someone from Sloan so we can jam together (me on the piano, him, I don’t know)…

I am planning to take some courses in MIT (cross registration), so we will definitely meet – even in the class room.

Are you final about MIT? What about your Columbia plans?

Hi.

Well, 710, 290, 87 average in Computer-Science & Business Administration.

Founded a startup about 5 years ago and have managed/worked in it since.

I must admit that this was far from predictable. When I just started off, I was advised to go for the 2^nd ten in the ranking. Obviously, I’m glad that I didn’t take that advice.

It’s hard to tell what they liked about my application. What I can tell is that my essays were pretty balanced – not overselling, I also had very articulated recommendations. I also know that my interviewer appreciated my effort in coming to interview on campus (she said that about 4 times). I guess they also appreciated the fact that I have had a very clear direction (management in hi-tech) since I finished the army.

BTW – if I had to bet what would happen right after submitting the applications, I would have guessed that I had better chances to get into Stanford than into HBS. Surprisingly, I was dinged from Stanford without even getting an interview. So, as I said – you can never tell.

I am still waiting for MIT, but I guess HBS will be it.

Are there any other 2^nd round HBS admits?

I'm searching for information about financial aid in the States for US citizens who are not (and never were) residents. If anyone can give me some tips about the FAFSA process and other financial aid procedures in that regard, that would be great.

Hi,

Yale asks all international students to fill a financial statement. I have a few questions about that:

1. I am an American citizen, however, I am not a resident, I suppose I have to fill that statement, or am I wrong?

2. I wonder how they use the statement – on the one hand they obviously want to see that I can pay my tuition and other expences. But in the other hand, could it influence my financial aid? in other words – is it good to have a lot of money or little money for this statement?
