Hey man,
The process is defintly tough for me. I managed to submit only to HBS in the first round. Hopefully, I'll be able to submit to Stanford & Columbia by the end of the second round. I've decided not to apply to Wharton, it simply doesn't attract me for some reason, although no doubt it's a top school.
I'm contemplating applying to MIT and NYU as well, not sure I've enough time for that though.
Thanks for asking eliko, I appreciate that. I hope (and strongly believe) that you'll be accepted to one of your dream schools.

שתי שאלות ברשותך.- אשמח אם תוכל לפרט על אופציות הדיור שיש לסטודנט ישראלי בקולומביה. כגון, האם קשה/קל למצוא דיור? יש/אין סיבסוד מצד האוניברסיטה? האם הדיור הוא עם שותפים/בלי שותפים? יש/אין מגורים בקמפוס? בכמה היית מעריך את ההוצאה החודשית על דיור? וכו'
- למיטב ידיעתך, האם קולומביה היא high-tech friendly? אני אסביר למה אני מתכוון – ידוע שתחום ההתמחות של קולומביה זה finance ולכן מעומדים נוטים להדגיש בחיבורים כיצד התמחות זו עומדת בקנה אחד עם מטרותיהם בטווח הקצר והארוך. אני לעומת זאת, בא מעולם ההיי-טק ורואה עצמי ממשיך שם גם אחרי MBA (product manager בטווח הקצר) אבל לא בתחום הfinance (יותר כיוון של marketing וgeneral management-). מה אתה חושב? עם שאיפות כמו שלי יש לי סיכוי בקולומביה למרות שהיא יותר finance oriented?

תודה על התשובה. בדיעבד אני חושב שאתה צודק, עדיף היה לו השארתי את השדה הזה ריק. איך אומרים… לא בוכים על חלב שנשפך (הגשתי את האפליקציה לHBS בסיבוב הראשון).
דרך אגב, אני מסכים איתך לחלוטין – הinfo session של סטנפורד איכזב ולא תרם (לפחות מבחינתי) משמעותית בהבנת מה לעזאלזל הם בדיוק מחפשים בחיבור של what matters to you the most.

Hi Gilam,
One of the fields that HBS asked to fill out in the self-reported transcript was the estimated "Rank in Cass".
Could you please comment on the importance of this field? Do you know how many of the Israeli HBS admits in recent years were top 5%-10% in their class (in terms of percents)? Given that my undergrad institution, the Hebrew U., doesn't release class ranks, was it wise on my side to report on my class rank estimation – top 20%? (I'm not even sure whether NOT reporting was an option at all)
Different question – I had some grammar/style errors in my app. Could this fact hurt my chances?

בחלק של Extracurricular Activities באפליקציה של HBS ישנו שדה בשם Office Held.שלא ברורה לי משמעותו. למשל אם הכנתי קבוצת ילדים בסיכון למבחני הבגרות שלהם במהלך הלימודים שלי באוניברסיטה אז מה הOffice Held שלי בדיוק? Math Tutor?
בחלק של Full Time Employment באפליקציה של HBS ישנם ארבעה חלקים a, b, c, d שבהם צריך לפרט. ידוע לך אם זה ע"פ תפקיד או ע"פ מקום עבודה? אם זה ע"פ תפקיד הרי ש4 חלקים לא מספקים, למשל מישהו יכול למלא תפקיד של QA בשנה ראשונה, אחר כך תפקיד של מתכנת בשנה שניה ואז ראש צוות וכו" והכל באותו מקום עבודה. לחילופין אם זה ע"פ מקום עבודה, יש בעיה אם הtitle כי לא הכרחי שמילאתי את אותו תפקיד לאורך כל התקופה שהייתי באותו המקום.
שאלה אחרונה – מה האורך המומלץ של הרזומה, דף או שני דפים? ראיתי שHBS מרשים לכל היותר שני דפים.

רציתי לדעת מה המשמעות של הדברים הבאים שנלקחו מהאתר של קולומביה. כמה זה מחייב משפטית? תחת הההנחה שה$5000 מבחינתי יכולים לרדת לטמיון האם קולומביה עדיין יכולים לתבוע אותי באם החלטתי בסוף לא ללכת לקולומביה?

שאלה קצרה ברשותך. כמה ימים לפני deadline של הגשת אפליקציה לבית-ספר מסויים ניתן לעשות את מבחן הtoefl? כלומר, אם המועד האחרון של הגשת האפליקציה לסיבוב הראשון הוא 13/10 למשל, אז השאלה שלי אם תיאורטית אני יכול לגשת למבחן ב12/10, להזין את הציון הזמני של המבחן שלי באותו היום לתוך הonline application, לסמוך על כך שהבית ספר יקבל את התוצאות הרשמיות שבועיים מאוחר יותר ועדיין להחשב כמי שפנה בסיבוב הראשון?

Hi wgeller,
I used both Princeton and Kaplan CATs and in my opnion they are anything but tests that resemble the real thing. I scored 590, 600 and 610 on the Kaplan CATs and 650, 640, 660 and 630 on the Princeton CATs. My real GMAT score was 740. That said, doing these CATs builds your confidence and familiarity in terms of taking computerized tests under time constraints.
I personally focused on practicing only real GMAT questions (OG, PowerPrep, disclosed ETS tests etc.)

Would greatly appreciate you candid evaluation of my chances with H/S/W.
I actually had, 1½ months or so ago, an email correspondence with Aringo, but never got feedback from you about my chances with the above schools. At the time of correspondence I lacked a GMAT score, so I guess that a complete evaluation wasn't possible. Anyway, I took the test 3 days ago and scored 740.
My background in short:
28, Male
Edu.
BS.c in Computer Science from the Hebrew U. GPA: 85
MS.c in Bioinformatics in the Hebrew U (still in progress)W/E
currently heading the R&D (8 people) of small startup for 1½ years now
project manager in a well internationally known israeli high-tech company for 1 year
software developer for ~2 years in the above company.
Community
raised more than 70K
have been responsible over the last year for approx 45 adult volunteers, with the help of whom we reached out to more than 300 teenagers. The volunteering project which I led took place under the umbrella of the non-profit org. LATET. The project was extremely successful and had quite some impact on LATET itself. (a lot more to tell here)

Hi Irene,
Just wanted to thank you for your awesome GMAT SC book. Much of my 740 score on the GMAT (took the test 3 days ago) I owe this book . Prior to reading your book I used to get, on average, only 3 out of 10 SCs correct, but after reading it, I managed to get almost every SC right. It helped me not only to improve my accuracy but also to increase my speed, thereby contributing to my peformance on the verbal section in general.

Before I ask my question, I would like to point out that I have your book and it's really a great one.
Now for the question – I have a problem with the following SC:
In some countries, people pay today three times more than ten years ago for the same apartment, due to an increasing demand for housing.
(A) more than
(B) as much as they have
(C) more than they have
(D) more as they did
(E) more than they did
On one hand, (E) is wrong because after the multiple number three times, the equality form, as___as, not the comparative form, must be used.
On the other hand, (B) is wrong because the auxiliary verb have cannot be used in a clause that includes time indication (ten years ago).
Would appreciate if you could help me resolve the above discrepancy

Hi Irene,
I' started learning seriously for the GMAT just recently. In order to see where I stand, I took KAPLAN's diagnostic GMAT on which I scored 650 (Q: 45, V: 35). This grade really worries me since my targeted schools require a much higher score, and since I'm scheduled to take the test in a month from now . So, I would really appriciate if you could tell me whether KAPLAN'S diagnostic test is a good predictor of my peromance on the real GMAT (I hope not).
Also, one technicality about the GMAT – I'm supposed to take the test at 08:00 – 12:00 pm. I'm not sure about the meaning of this time frame – does it mean that I can begin the test anytime between 08:00 and 12:00?
