Noa,

Just to give you some facts, in my year 3 out of 4 Israelis had summer internship in consulting (the fourth did not look for one). All three had offers for full time position in consulting as well (of whom, I was the only one to join the industry).

I agree with Dror that it requires some work as we are not used to this kind of interview, but it is defiantly possible.

Hello Amit,

The only rivalry between the universities is the big game (The big football game between Stanford and Barkley). I do not know of any special rivalry between the two business schools. Both are very good schools in the same geographic area.

The admission office is well aware that people apply for more than one school and I do not believe applying to Barkley will harm your chances in any way.

Hello Asaf,
First of all I have to say that high GMAT score is good for your application, but it is not a must. The admission looks at your entire profile: experience, recommendations, essays, undergrad record and GMAT. There is no minimal GMAT score and I have many class mates that got in with “low” GMAT score.

About Stanford, for me it was all about the people and the atmosphere in the school. Many people visit and fall in love with the place.
Of course that there are other factors, among them: The location (great weather of California and the center of the Silicon Valley), Reputation and alumni network.

I think that you should look deeper into Stanford and decide what the right answer is for you, for me it was with no doubt the right decision.

For alumni connection please contact the administration through the website.
About the strength of the school, my personal view is that the two main strengths are general management and entrepreneurship. However, there is no typical Stanford path and you will find many people in completely different industries.
You see many alums that have started their own companies and at the same time you see others in corporate America.
I am also a career changer (sort of) and I believed (and still do) that after my studies I can choose the path that is right for me. In my first year I am exploring the different industries and the different courses and next year I hope to focus on 2-3 industries that I would find most interesting.
I think that Stanford gives you the set of tools to work in any industry you will choose to.

Diversity is very important in Stanford. You can find 24 years old and 35 years old people. All are relevant to the school as each adds something unique to the classes.
About what is unique vs. other schools I can not answer completely because I know only about Stanford and it will not be fare to talk about other places. My personal believe is that both schools are great schools, the question is which is better for you and you are the only one that can answer this question after some research about the schools and their culture.
For me several things that are important for me are:
– The spirit of entrepreneurship.
– The friendly atmosphere that has routs in the west coast location
– And the most important thing for me is the people, I have yet to have a boring conversation with classmate, they are all friendly talented and overall amazing people.

Hi,
The official Stanford Chapter in Israel is a brand new one and is just getting started. There are a little more than 40 alums who live in Israel, however there are several more Israelis that did not come back (yet).
We have just had a meeting with some alums in Israel (as part of the Israeli study trip that we are having) and they are very involved with the school and care a lot about the future of the Israeli students in Stanford.
In the last few years we saw that the number of Israelis in each class is getting bigger and in the last two classes there were 4-6 Israelis in each class, we hope that the Israeli chapter will be much bigger in the future.

Indeed, as Dan wrote, the best thing is to work 3-4 years.
However, in the last years schools in the top 10 are willing to consider students that want to study right after first degree (I am one of those guys).

I think that it is best to but the computer there.

The prices should be better and you do not need to carry the computer with you.

you should think about two options:

1) buy a big (and heavy computer that you can use as a desktop also).

2) but a small one + a docking station.

אני עשיתי את ה-GMAT בקיץ לפני השנה האחרונה של הלימודים.

מצד אחד הרגשתי שאני הרבה יותר קרוב לחומר מאנשים שסיימו ללמוד לפני כמה שנים, אבל מצד שני צריך קצת חופש בחיים – בכל מקרה זה אפשרי.

בקשר לשאלה אם אפשר להתקבל ישר בסוף התואר: אז כן, אני התקבלתי לפני שסיימתי תואר ראשון.

בשנים האחרונות יש מגמה של בתי הספר לא לפסול מועמדים בלי ניסיון, כמובן שבמקרה זה עליך להיות טוב מאוד בכל שאר הפרמטרים. אבל אתה תוכל לשחק על הצבא ועל הניסיון בתור סטודנט.

from my humble experience I think that your decision should be based on what you want to do after the MBA.

If you want to go to Wall Street then Columbia is the right place for you.

If NGOs are your thing go to Yale.

my personal ranking: 1. Columbia 2. Berkeley 3. Yale. However that is the ranking for me and not for you.

anyway, all the three are great schools and I you cannot go wrong with any of them.

I had the interview today, she was very nice and asked the regular questions: why MBA?, why MIT? and why now?

she asked me about some specific stories from my application and about my current work place.

the interview was short (35 min.) and nice.

I also got an invitation from MIT.

As part of the e-mail they said: "P.S. If you have a friend or colleague who is also applying to the MIT Sloan School but has not been invited, please let him/her know that we are still evaluating applications and will invite candidates to interview through April 4, 2005."

I work in Microsoft Haifa and also as a teaching assistant in the faculty.

I am currently in my fourth and last year in the Technion in the CS department my GPA now is 95100.

I did the GMAT a month ago and got 750 after a course.

In the army I was in 8200.

I am trying to apply to the second round of schools in the US.
