Although I am involved with the media club, I still didn't do my summer internship… i am a first year. So you must be confusing me w/ Yinon who said he is in NBC right now.

The media club in LBS is one of the biggest and imo holds the most interesting events. Great guest speakers: Michael Grade, BBC Chairman; Frederick Huntsberry, NBC Universal; Director of Marketing, Skype; Dara Khosrowshahi, CEO of Expedia.

OK… I have checked again and below u can find the numbers. however, please remember two things:

1. this is an average. which means that some are below and some are above. which means you should also also look for the range.

2. not everyone who graduates stays in London, so lower salaries in different places will lower the average.

Don't worry, you will learn all about averages soon ;-)

so here are the numbers, updated last month (focus on full time only, GBP p.a):

consulting: average: 64K, range 48-78, median 65, sign on bonus (92%) 3-20 (median 11), end of year bonus (100%) 3-33 (median 25)

Finance: average: 59K, range 25 – 114, median 58 sign on bonus (83%) 3-40 (median 17), end of year bonus (99%) 1-60 (median 25)

Industry: average: 54K. range: 31-77, median 55 sign on bonus (58%) 2-22 (median 10), end of year bonus (91%) 3-52 (median 10)

overall average: 59000

by region, the median salary in the UK is 60 (range 35-108) (if you're particularly interested, the 114 is in asia)

Hi Amit,

The GMAT range is 600-800, with an average of 680. In my study group there are ppl with 650 and 620.

I am not considering myself an expert regarding acceptance (this is Gilam's area), but I can tell you what to put the emphasis on:

International experience (VERY important – if you didn't work abroad, than talk about travelling, languages you speak, and any international exposure you had). You talked about international sales & marketing – I don't know what it means but I guess if you put it in the right way in your essays it can help.

except for that stress leadership and team work.

3rd round chances are the same as earlier rounds.

about 30% of students get a job w/ industry.

Finance is NOT my direction (hence, I am spending time here, instead of studying to the final on Saturday). I am looking for marketing/strategy/business development/GM role. it all depends on the day you are asking. I keep changing my mind every day…

Looking for a job in industry when at LBS means a lot of networking and "avodat raglaim". The MBA culture in europe isn't as established as it is the US. many FMCG companies fon't hire MBAs in europe, while the same companies in the US will hire only mbas for brand management roles.

There are less structured internship programs. You need to present it as a summer project, short term contract etc.

The jobs are mainly for Europe, but there are some jobs for asia the states. Again, you own networking efforts can only expand these opportunities.

Well, the current milkround session is for the second year.

Our starts next term (January). I am expecting two presentations a day, by consulting firms and banks, and lots of free food.

Since I am interested in a job in the industry free food is the most important part of the milkround for me. I will use this time for networking networking networking.

hmmm… LBS is focused on Finance. I hear that almost every day.

I hear it from students,

and I hear it from prospective students.

The fact is that about 32% get an "industry job", and about 35% get a consulting job. The difference is that, indeed, the number of banks and consulting firms that come to recruit in campus is much higher than the number of industry companies. In order to get an industry job you need to network much more. But:

We are networking anyway. a lot.

The clubs are doing a fantastic job!

Career services do help!

You get so many field projects as part of the academic requirements which give you an excellent opportunity to expand your network (I don't think that there is one group that is doing the Org. behavior project with a bank or a consulting firm!)

and as I said, you network a lot anyway.

And… if you ask me where is my direction, I can tell you for sure that the chance that you will find me working in a bank is zero. Finance is not my thing at all (although, surprisingly, the finance class is my favorite this term).

As for the costs: The costs are high. But – it is an investment. and don't forget that if you stay in the UK you will earn your salary in GBP. and as you will learn in Econ. class – sunk cost is the last thing you worry about after you start the project. BTW all three types of job have the same mean salary: ~50K GBP a year.

It depends on the school. If i remember correctly, Duke's pay date last year was May. LBS has two dates: first amount (1500 GBP) was in february and the second (6000 GBP) in june.

I am having SO much fun! We are still in pre term, which means some courses in Ethics, Leadership, etc. However, what we do most of the time is getting used to the local mentality… AKA drinking allot of beer :-)

The term starts next week, and than the real "balagan" will start. No more drinking every night :-(

The weather was great so far (maybe 3 days of rain in a month). I know it will change soon… chaval.

הי אבי,

אני מניחה שהתקבלתי ל-LBS בזכות מכלול רחב של שיקולים, ולאו דווקא הנתונים ה"יבשים" של ציונים.

אני משוכנעת שלא הGMAT היחסית נמוך שלי (650) ולא הממוצע הלא ממש מזהיר שלי (80) הם שהכניסו אותי לשם. המלצות וחיבורים טובים הם כנראה מה ששכנע את ועדת הקבלה.

בחיבורים כדאי לשים דגש על ניסיון ניהולי ומנהיגות (צבא), ניסיון בינ"ל (גם טיולים ארוכים), ועבודת צוות. לא נראה לי שיש טעם שאשלח לך את החיבוירם שלי, משום שמן הסתם ניסיון החיים שלנו, והמאפיינים האישיים שלנו כבני אדם שונים מאד זה מזה. תנסה ליצור תמונה משכנעת, מקיפה, ואמיתי שלך ככל הניתן.

היתרון המשמעותי של לימודים ב-LBS הוא העובדה שבן זוג מקבל אישור עבודה אוטומטית. עניין של שעה בשגרירות והכל מסודר.

החיסרון המשמעותי בלימודים שם הוא כמובן יוקר המחייה. לא קיבלתי מלגה. ישנה מלגה של הקונסוליה הבריטית, אשר לא הגשתי אליה מועמדות, פשוט כי שמעתי עליה מאוחר מדי. שווה לבדוק ולנסות. הדד ליין הוא בדצמבר, אם אני לא טועה, ולא צריך לדעת שהתקבלת ע"מ להגיש מועמדות.
