I graduated from Duke in 2003 as part of the HSM (Health Sector Management) program, which is considered to be the top healthcare MBA program in the country.
After graduation I joined Amgen, the largest biotechnology company. Amgen, by the way, only recruits at 5 business school in the country (Duke, Wharton, UCLA, Michigan, Kellogg).
ALL the large pharma companies, major biotechs and medical device companies recruit people from the program as well as HMOs, hospitals and healthcare consulting firms.
I'd be happy to answer questions if you'd like.

Amir,
IMy background was similar to yours, at least in terms of education.
I got my MBA at Duke which has one, if not the best, healthcare management program. Upon graduation, I joined Amgen, the largest biotechnology company in the world as a product manager.
Feel free to contact me with any questions.

Cap,
I graduated from Duke in 2003 as part of the healthcare management program.
As Ronnie mentioned, Duke's HSM (Health Sector Management) program is one of the top porgrams in this field and attracts many recruiters from pharmaceutical, biotech and med device companies as well as hospitals and HMOs.
I'd be happy to tell you more about the program and my experience working at Amgen.

Yariv,
A few points to think about:
1. Schools have different interviewing schedules which means that it could be difficult to get all of them in one visit
2. There are schools, like Duke, where an interview is not mandatory, but highly recommended. That means that everyone that applies can interview without an invitation. You can tie the interview in this case to the visit.
3. Many schools offer interviews in Israel by local alumni
4. Visiting the schools could add a lot of credibility to your application.
I feel that you'd be better off flying once to visit all the schools that you're interested in before applying. That would carry a lot of weight regardless of where you interview.
בתגובה ל: ארכיון 2: שאל את ארינגו: תהליך הקבלה #6494To: yarivd
Yariv,
In general, August is a "dead" month as everyone is still out for their summer internships or are just returning to school.
The earliest date you could schedule a visit is September. I'd recommend to take advantage of the visits and set up interviews wherever you can.
Good luck,

You first need to ask yourself what you want to do with an MBA? what are your career goals?
Only after answering these questions, you'd be able to close on your school target list. While top schools are similar in terms of the quality of education, they differ in the type of industries that recruit.
For instance, if you want I-banking there's one set of schools vs. marketing with another set of schools.

I think you're missing the understanding that this forum is only intended for people who want to attned the top business school, have already done their research about the cost and have decided to pursue the degree. You won't find the Derby type of people here…
Your efforts are not going to bear any fruits with this audience.
This is a friendly advice, trying to save you time and effort.
Good luck,

He can always obtain an H1B.
The next batch is released in October. You get there in August and by the time he interviews and gets an offer, he can have the company apply for a visa.
Just keep it in mind. All or nothing could back fire….
בתגובה ל: ארכיון: התקבלת? אנא עדכן #4955To: dalit
You first have to be enrolled. The process strats only after the school send you an I-20 form and that will not happen until you're fully enrolled.
There's a downside to the J visa that you should be aware of. Since it's granted mainly to people who are "sponsored", they are expected to return to their home countries after school. That means that it's harder for them to get the OPT (Optional Practical Training) period of one year from graduation. If they want to stay and work, they need to find a company that would sponsor the H1B immediately.

בתגובה ל: ארכיון 2: ???Any Israeli Applicants #4914To: Assaf Wand, pilpelet
I completely agree with Assaf.
Any school’s brand name in Israel is irrelevant when choosing what school to attend. What counts is the school’s brand in the US in the respective career area you’d like to pursue. The reputation in the US determines what companies would recruit at the school and ultimately your job after graduation.
It is the experience you gain after school that would determine how “valuable” you’d be when you return to Israel and much of the experience hinges on the company you’d work for.
Good luck,בתגובה ל: ארכיון 2: ???Any Israeli Applicants #4915To: D06

you don't need to get married… you can move as a couple, but at that point the issue of big vs. small city is irrelevant becuase your boyfirend wouldn't get a visa that allows him to work (unless he becomes a student himslef)

I'm not going to "convince" you that you're wrong.
In my presentation, I did talk about Duke's focus on non-for-profit and social entreprenuership and that fact that Duke has one of the first and largest reserach centers on this subject. I didn't spend too much time in my presnetation becuase it's not an area Israelis are traditionally interested in.
If you'd read Duke's web site carefully, you'd find plenty of info. You can always get in touch with the people at the research center and I'm sure to answer all of your questions.
Good luck,
Danny
בתגובה ל: ארכיון 2: ???Any Israeli Applicants #4418To: shirlis
There are several program that have a focus on non-for-profit and social entrepreneurship. Not sure though that any of the schools you mention fall into that category…
In regards to your spouse – does he have a green card? working visa? if not, that being in abig city is not going to change much. Working permits (H1B) are given obly once a year, in October, and then you have to wait another year.
בתגובה ל: ארכיון 2: ???Any Israeli Applicants #4416To: shirlis
Shirli (and everyone else),
I'd be curiuos to know why are you applying to the shools you listed?
I find that many people tend to apply to schools just becuase everyone else is applying there without considering what their goals are. Every school is unique and not neccessarily suitable to your career goals.
My advice to everyone is to first think about your career goals and industry preferences and only then match schools that have a strength in those areas.
Danny

Yes. They were very impressed with you.
They had one concern though – whether you'd accept an offer if you're extended one. She feels as if you'd go somewhere else if you have multiple offers.

Boaz,
I'm going to be in Israel starting next week and would host a reception for Duke on the 27th at the Carlton hotel.
You're more than welcome do drop by and we could chat more about the job search process.
Don't get me wrong – you're applying to great schools, but not all are perceived as the best marketing schools and what matters is the recruiters perception and not BW ranking.
בתגובה ל: ארכיון 2: ???Any Israeli Applicants #3836To: boazcn
You're entiltled to your own opinion, but trust me that what I wrote came from my own experience going through the job hunt process and seeing what other schools where the other candidates coming from.
בתגובה ל: ארכיון 1: ???Any Israeli Applicants #3789To: omri
Omer,
You are absolutely right. There aren’t any major differences b/w top schools in terms of education or placement (although placement is industry specific). There are some other differences like cost of living and geography.
I was referring to the low ranking schools that offer a full scholarship just to attract students. What one saves in the short term at those schools doesn’t not worth the agony of the job search later.
More importantly, the point of my message was to make people realize that the decision to attend business school doesn’t hinge on the cost of the program. That just shows that they are not ready and have not done their research in terms of the MBA is all about.בתגובה ל: ארכיון 1: ???Any Israeli Applicants #3770To: All
Lets put a stop on all the messages containing the question "does it worth it?"!!!!!
I agree with odrp that people who pose this question have no clue about what is an MBA, what is the value of an MBA from a top school in the US or even what they would do with an MBA.
No one comes back to Israel immidately after their MBA because the idea is to gain valuable experience in the states that they could then leverage if they decide to return home.
The only way to is to work for a company with a good solid reputation. To acehieve that, people need to go to top schools who attract those companies.
Yes, someone can go to a school that would offer them a full scholarship, but they would be left (on the most part) without a good job at the end.
To sum – ask question that show you have put some thought behind the decision. Learn what is an MBA. Don't concentrate on the $100,000 so much, but more so on getting into a school (even without a scholarship) that will gurantee a good, well paying job.
Most importantly – THINK, READ and only then ask.

Not too sure about what "options for hospital management" means. Are you looking for schools with this type of a concentration?
If this is your question, then I'd look at the healthcare programs at Duke, Wharton and to some degree Kellogg.

With your background, you'll obviously be valuable in healthcare.
You have two options:
1. hospital management and managed care
2. pharamceuticals / medical devices

Keren,
I was happy to read that you're working on some project with Amgen, as I myslef am working for Amgen as a product Manager (ENBREL).
I graduated from the healthcare program at Duke in 2003, which is one of only 6 schools that Amgen is recruiting at. Our background is somwhat similar (atudai).
If you'd like to learn more about the program, don't hesitate to write.
Danny
בתגובה ל: ארכיון 1: שאל את ארינגו: תהליך הקבלה #3155To: alonw, Gilam, kassifo
I would not interview to a school before sending in the application as kassifo recommended.
As an interviewer, I can tell you that it clearly shows in your interview. A negative feedback from an interviewers carries a larger weight than a postive one.
If you want to practice your interview skills do that with friends or professionals. The real interview is not a testing ground.

I'd be curious to know where you studied. That was my academic background before b-school.
In terms of scholarships. There aren't any Israeli scholarships. Everey appliacnt is entitled to a merit scholarship (based on your undergard GPA + GMAT), but that is determined only after the applicant is admitted. However, I would not hold my breath for this scholarship as they are rarely given to internationals.
You can obtain a loan from the school with a low interest rate, which is the most viable option for students.
Look at this as an invetement in your future. You put in $100,000 to obtain a job with a leading pharmaceutical / biotech company (is this your interest?) and make on average $100,000 on your first year. In 3-4 years you have paid off your loan, saved some money and gained valuable experience that will serve you for your future.
בתגובה ל: ארכיון 1: שאל את ארינגו: תהליך הקבלה #3071To: ednali
Ednali,
The issue with going to b-school immediately after undergrad is not wether will be accepted, but more a question of how recruiters nad fellow students will perceive you.
Recruiters are looking for people with full time work experience and they will not consider work during school as full time. They will also doubt your reason of going to b-school.
Your fellow studenst will be older than you. They like to have people who are similar to them.
My advice – finish school, work for a few years and then apply.
בתגובה ל: ארכיון 1: שאל את ארינגו: תהליך הקבלה #3015To: rl_7
Gilam touched upon all the major issues.
My advice for you is to first figure out what are your career goals. That will come handy both in choosing the right school as well as writing the essays.
Don't get caught in the ranking game. Look at each school's web site for the list of companies that recruits there. This should be one of the biggest drivers.
Second, I would look at class size. If you'd like to get to know your class mates, apply to a smaller school.
