I have been to quite a few schools' receptions and never seen anyone showing the admission officer their resume or giving business card.

What you can do, is take their card to send a thank you note and/or follow up questions.

 

By the way, last year several people asked to be interviewed and scheduled one for the next day. In that case you will  be asked to bring your resume.

However, in case your resume is not perfectly finished for the application purposes, you still strugle developing your essays stories,  and you never practiced for inteviews, you may want to seriously consider taking the risk of being interviewed without proper preparation.

It does not say a word about "merging" which I think is the key for solving the question correctly. In my opinion most of the explanations in OG made in such a way that it is almost impossible to learn from them. Their most popular reasoning is "wordy" and "awkward":)) So, one can keep gambling:)

Can you please explain what part of sentense is the word "merging" , and to what exactly it realates?

Regarding word "as" – it can serve both as conjuntion and as preposition.

Run a search for "as" here: http://webster.com/. In this specific case, however, it seems that it should serve as conjuction (verb "do" is missing) – so you are right.

In addition, can you please explain why parallelism between "powers" and "merges" is incorrect. I did not understand your reasoning.

Well, let's see if I remember something:

Merging is Participle Modifier => relates to Nuclear fusion => and this mean that :" while merging……, the nuclear fusion is the force that ….."

I do not remeber exactly when to use "as" and when "like" -check it at Iirene's book, but at B there should be verb "do" in the end of the sentence, otherwise it is wrong comparison – compares noun with verb.

A, B, C – out (flaw in logic)

D) comma before conjunction but is missing, and pay attention to this => "unclear reactors" instead of "nuclear reactors" => D is out.

You left only with E in which "Nuclear fusion is the force that powers …., and merges…." => verb "powers" is parallel to verb "merges"

I would appreciate if you estimate my chances also at Chicago, Michigan, LBS and CMU (I have checked the website of these programs and it seems that my stats are within their middle 80%, although at the lower end).

I probably would be able to get a recomendation of math proffessor at Northwestern (not a Kellogg proffesor) if I apply to Kellogg. What can be the added value of such recommendation and will it influence your estimation?

Regarding the time and money I would be able to spend about 2 hours a day on the apps during weekdays and 2-6 hours on weekends, I don't think that this amount of hours will change next year, but of corse I would have more than 2 month to prepare the apps. I am not sure I will be able to visit programs this year, but do not cancel the possibility completely. I think I can imrove my GMAT to 690-700, maybe 720-730.

My main concern is that if I apply and won't be admitted then at the end of march, after a four month break, I will start preparing to retake GMAT almost from scratch, and that will leave me with the minimum time for writing an apps next year. The other concern is the recent trend for admiting younger applicants. What a role can play this one year age difference?

I also found out that at Cornell the January round is actualy 3rd round. What are the chances to be admitted at Johnson's 3rd round compared to those of 1st and 2nd?

Some time ago you have estimated my chances based on GMAT of 670.

I got 650 (Q48, V31) and will appreciate if you can explain how, if at all, it changes your previous estimation which can be found at page 194 of this thread.

What do you think is better, to try to get into 2-3 lower ranked Top schools in the second round iof this year or improve the GMAT and to apply next year to 5-6 schools?

Please take into consideration that I will turn 30 in the summer, and also expect a promotion and an extension of my job rsponsibilities (bussiness development at East European market).

I totaly agree with you that networking is UP TO THE PERSON, and that someone who is good at it, will do (network) better than others at any school. However, I have heard from few sources that there are some schools known for more responsive and willing to help networks than others. In general these are few smaller schools located at rural areas, and Stanford. Do you think that is not correct?

Your example of bringing best prof. to the open day lectures is invaluable, I will certainly keep it in mind if I visit schools.

Is DUKE the school you was so excited about? Do you know other people who think that visiting Duke helped them to be admited?

Can you elaborate what school you mentioned (the quote is below)?

"I will give you an example – i went to a finance class in school X. The prof. started by handing back assignments. He wrote on the board a list of IDs. He said that they didn't get a grade for the assignment because they handed in a typed write up."

Hi All.

I have a question to alumni and admited students regarding the importance of visiting the school before submiting application.

There is no doubt that the visit can clarify if the environment suits ones needs and expectations, and that will probably be reflected in better essays. But let's assume that other person, who have not visited the school, but talked to alumni and students, submit essays of comparable quality, and also other stats of both are comparable.

To what degree will the visit influence the admission officers decision if they need to select between the two? How is the importance of visit changed from school to school? Maybe we can gather some info, form alumni and students and generate statistics relevant to each school?

If you compare it to other programs by salary and placement percentage then it is second only to HBS, Wharton and Stanford.
