what do you think is a sizable shcolarship – anything above 30% or is that rather common, I heard people at Cornel get often 10000. OR is a sizable scholarship means almost full, something like 80%?

thanks for your comment here. I imagine it is a hard decision to give up a more well known school in Israel for a school that just as good but not as well known here but probably well known in the US. I known that many Israelis still opt for the W and H over other schools where they got money.

How did you go about getting the scholarship, did you specifically iterate to them you need help, btw- did you visit the school beforehand?

I think most of us agree w every word you said. Still, once you chosse the several shcools u are most interested in, and say that while you ahve your favioutte, any one of them would do, would you not prefer a school that offers you 50% scholarship over one with nothing. Obviously, there are other consideration, but I am not sure that Darden or UCLA with some money is still much much worst than say, Columbia with no scholship whatsoever. After all I think that their placement is rougly the same,(assuming this is the same in the particular industry one is interested in)

Two quick questions if I may:

When schools ask you about which other schools you are applying to, for eg Carnegie Mellon does that, what are you supposed to do?

Write ALL schools, the ones you are applying to so far. I mean if you tell them and they figure that they are not your no.1 choice, can it hurt you? If they think you will be accepted at, say, K of W, will they waitlist you?

Can I give them a partial list? I am afraid they may have a way of checking these things?

My second question:In terms of prestigue would you rank Carnegie with UCLA, Yale and Darden ?

What are acceptable reasons for it? only "life and death" or more ordinary reasons, did you have to pay a large deposit?

Sorry for bugging u but one last question: do u say "a great job" b/c of their recruitmnet efforts or just in general that Rotman is well known in Canada and therefore would lead to good positioning when looking for a job?

Some have told me that Rotman is not as good as US Schools with respect to recruiting, even in Canada.

I meant Duke and Cornell. I am not sure if contacting the itnerviewer is appopriate, and more importantnly if it is at all fruitful – I mean do they get updated who W admitted and get feedback on each person?

What will the interviewer do? Call them up, change their mind? ,aube..I do not know it is just very surprising. My view is – if you got an itnerview invite – means you are "acceptable" and now depending on the interview — if u ahve a lousy one – vs. great one, one the enhances the app one that does not.. at any rate, mine told me some great feedback on the spot so I thought I would def. be WL at the least..Well, we'll see, waiting on the $ news from D and C. Duke is a great school on the way up , I think more than Cornell but I am just saying this ..obviously both are top schools. Where are u leaning? Once I get the news on $ I will be more firm about what I want to do next year.

I did not…. had a great interview so I was really surprised, my interviewer told me what the recommendation would be….( to accept!).we had great chemistry so I was surprised. I am holding accepts. at C and D but still this threw me off balance…anyone else got good news (I hope)

do u think it is appropriate to contact me interviewer even just to let know what the final outcome was (out of curtesy but also to see whether something went off…)?

Hi Dan,

I got into Duke Round 3. I am so excited and want to thank u for your advice on these board and at the Fulbright conference.

Question: how are the scholarships given out at Duke, they say I should hear by apr. 15. Are Rd, 3 applicants considered for financial aid in a pool along with Rd 2 and 1 or is it a different pool. I assume that my chances for financial aid slimmer because I applied in Rd. 3 is that true?

you are both right, most Israelis find jobs and particularly now that the economy is picking up but, and I do not want to name names, I know o tow people, one from a top NY school, another from a top west coast school who did not find a job back in 01. I also know of two others who are noe in their second year and struggeling. Of course, it is mostly up to each candidate, how they interview and leave a first impression but still, not 100% find a job, unfortunately.

your input is very valuable. Still, I would like to ask your opinion about the ROI:

putting the MBA experience (meeting great people, learning new skills etc. )

I am vp marketing in a 100 person software company, and doing very well. Some may say that this is a post MBA position, and in fact many of my colleagues have MBA from TA U. If I spend 100K on an education at Wharton or Duke and do not find a job afterwards (keep in mind I do not havea GC and would require an H-1, )I would then return here and to the same position I have and the same pay….

The friends I have who went for an MBA, were in junior positions and had less to loose so to speak. out 6, 4 are wokring for bcg and alike, two did not find a job (gradauted in 00 and 01) or got laid off and returned to Israel…

Do you meet a lot of people who go for an MBA (from Israel) who leave a 27K job (32years old) in a mid level management position and if so what did they do afterwards?

I agree with you wholeheartedly! right on the money… things is, unless you compromise and go to a lesser knowsn school and then get maybe 50-60% scholarship, chances for that kind of tuition help are scarce. Yet, your chances for a good paying job for an international student are not that great coming out of such a schools (eg. McCombs), catch 22. What do most people do? take loans of 100K?

Try the Cracking series of Princeton, it is really good . also try Kaplan. Princeton has a great online stuff but I am not sure it is open to students who are not studying there.

If you want courses, I think High Q has a good one and also PrincetonReview but make sure to have it in Tel-Aviv and not in Beer Sheva because the center in Tel-Aviv has the ebst teachers.

Is it true, abseed on your exp. that the invites for HBS are sent "atonce" and that one itnerviewer is conducting all interviewes? Hence, if one RD2 applicant received an invite that means that "all" were sent out and I should probably assume I will not be inviited?

Also, at W , what an impact does the interview have on the app, what is its weight?

It's me again. I am debating between INSEAD, I have some freinds who went there, and US Schools.

I was wondering if YOU had the same thoughts or can contirbute to my thinking.

The main issue is that I want to work for a few years abroad, gain some exp. at a multi-national/ global company, hence the recruitment/ job issue after the MBA is critical. Nothing is 100% and this is not the only reason I want an MBA but still it is an important concern.
